Tea Creek is now streaming on CBC Gem as part of their Absolutely Canadian Series. The Tea Creek Film joins Indigenous Food Sovereignty activist Jacob Beaton and his team at the beginning of the third year of training. It serves as an intimate portrait of Jacob, Tea Creek and the story of their newest farmer Justice Moore. Following them through the growing season the film interweaves Jacob’s and Justice’s stories with the broader story of Tea Creek. Exploring the rich history of Indigenous agriculture and the little-known history of colonial actions to destroy it, the film shows how Jacob is leading a revival. As we wrap up our Vancouver Island Mobile Seed Trailer Tour, we are reflecting on some of our favourite moments. We visited the Galiano Island Community School in early October and discussed seed saving and seed security with students aged 6-12. We all had fun threshing beans, whacking lettuce heads, and screening various sizes of seeds together. Thank you to all of our wonderful hosts and volunteers from all of our locations so far!

Our Vancouver Island Seed Team grew these gorgeous Red Kuri Squash at our Sandown Seed Farm Hub Site as a seed crop for the BC Eco Seed Co-op and as a food crop, going to the Iyé Creative and the Victoria Native Friendship Centre. To save seeds the seed team had to make sure no one else around was growing other Cucurbita maximas (which is quite a task at Sandown with the many other farmers onsite!)
