In the US, 190 birds are lost every 6 seconds after colliding with glass. That is 2.74 million every day, and 1 billion every year. Those numbers represent the minimum estimated deaths, with actual numbers possibly being much higher. As alarming as these numbers are, there is hope for a Feather Friendly future. Treat your glass now before fall migration is over and temperatures drop below 10 degree Celsius. Feather Friendly® Bird Collision Deterrent Markers

Reduces reflection & alerts #birds to avoid collisions. Approved by: Flap Canada & American Bird Conservancy.
About us
It is estimated that collisions account for 1 billion bird deaths each year, or 10% of the total bird population in North America. In all of these collisions, buildings pose the biggest threat. Exterior glass, whether it be clear, tinted, or reflective, is not a recognizable part of the natural world for birds, and therefore, they simply do not 'see' it. Daytime collisions are generally associated with the reflection on the glass of vegetation or the sky on the lower 3-5 floors. Feather Friendly® was developed 10 years ago and is on its 6th generation. In that 10 years we have sold our solution globally with great success in reducing and eliminating bird collisions. Toronto was the first city in the world to develop Safe Building bylaws in regards to bird conservation. Similar guidelines have been adopted in major cities across North America as well as globally. Feather Friendly® is not a film but a marker that is placed on the outside surface to reduce reflection and alert birds to avoid a collision. It is fabricated from only the highest quality 3M product and carries all the durability and performance assurances from 3M. Our Commercial and DIY products have been used for over 10 years on thousands of residential and commercial installations with the highest performance rating both in longevity and reduced collisions. It is for both new construction as well as retrofit projects. We offer Commercial - Design, Consulting, Supply and Install or Supply only - and Residential DIY solutions. Feather Friendly® is recognized, approved and endorsed by both the American Bird Conservancy and FLAP Canada and is quickly becoming the number one choice to reduce bird collisions with glass. Join the Flock in Celebrating Birds! 🐦 Two big bird-focused events are happening this weekend! October Big Day and World Migratory Bird Day—both on October 12—are about celebrating the amazing journeys birds take and the need to protect them. Many migratory birds travel thousands of miles, facing huge challenges like habitat loss, window collisions, and extreme weather. They need safe places to rest and refuel along the way, but many of these spots are disappearing. Long-distance travellers face extra risks like light pollution, hunting, and predators like domestic cats. While World Migratory Bird Day reminds us that we all have a role to play in bird conservation, October Big Day is all about joining birders worldwide in counting as many bird species as possible! You can help birds in the following ways: Make your windows bird-friendly with Feather Friendly or @Bird-Divert markers #Keepcatsindoors Turn #lightsoff at night Share your bird sightings through #eBird Volunteer with advocacy groups and conservation organizations Learn more about World Migratory Bird Day here: https://lnkd.in/epqCPbe3 Learn more about October Big Day here: https://lnkd.in/eNTiG9aF Featured bird: Northern Parula #WMBD #worldmigratorybirdday #bigday #octoberbigday #birdsafe #glasscollision #habitatloss #ebird #featherfriendly #provensolution #conservation #birdconservation #birds #glass #savebirds #DIY #wildlifeconservation #markers #treatglasssavebirds #flap #americanbirdconservancy #cornelllab

The newly published State of Canada’s Birds report, prepared by Birds Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada, reveals alarming declines in bird populations throughout Canada. Despite some conservation successes, 36% of bird species in Canada are in decline, primarily due to habitat loss, climate change, free-roaming cats window collisions, and other human-driven factors. Here are the key insights: #MajorDeclines: Grassland, aerial insectivores, shorebirds and long-distance migrants are among the hardest hit, with species like #Bobolink and #Barn Swallow facing dramatic population decreases. #ClimateChange Impacts: Climate change is altering migration patterns and habitats faster than birds can adapt. Arctic-nesting species are particularly vulnerable, as warming temperatures disrupt their breeding cycles. #HabitatLoss: Wetlands and grasslands are disappearing at an alarming rate due to land conversion for agriculture and development. Birds like the Least Bittern and Northern Pintail have seen steep declines. #WindowCollisions : Bird-glass collisions continue to be one of the leading causes of bird deaths. Not all findings are lamentable, however, and there are some notable success stories. Three #birdgroups have increased in population since 1970: waterfowl (46 percent), birds of prey (35 percent), and wetland birds (21 percent). Raptors like the Peregrine Falcon and Bald Eagle have rebounded, thanks to targeted conservation efforts and legal protections, proving that conservation works when supported. #KeyThreats : Habitat destruction from agriculture, logging, and urban development Climate change, affecting over 30% of species Invasive species and pollution Free-roaming domestic and feral cats Glass collisions #WhatNeedstoChange : #HabitatProtection : Protecting and restoring wetlands, grasslands, and Arctic ecosystems; #makingglasssafer for birds #ClimateAction : Accelerating efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating climate-related impacts on bird habitats #Biodiversity Safeguards: Implementing policies to prevent habitat destruction, promoting sustainable agriculture, and protecting migratory routes. Keeping Cats Indoors: Also includes leashing both cats and dogs Read the complete report here: https://lnkd.in/g4cupxuB #birds #birdconservation #conservation #canada #canadabirds #environment #stateofcanadasbirds
Today is a great day to learn about #birds! 💡 In fact, we have just released the most complete overview of Canada’s birds in collaboration with Birds Canada. 🤩 The State of Canada’s Birds 2024 provides a comprehensive look at 463 bird species that regularly occur in Canada. Over 50 years of long-term monitoring data were collected across the country – most of it by citizen scientists! Findings indicate that while many of Canada’s bird populations continue to decline, others have increased as a result of deliberate and informed conservation efforts. We have long maintained that bird-glass collisions are a global problem. While research on this major conservation concern has primarily been conducted in North America, ornithologists are keenly aware that birds will fall victim to untreated glass wherever it exists in the world. More proof of this has now come in from Brazil, where a recently conducted study highlights the traumatic injuries that birds experience when they collide with glass. The study examined 46 bird carcasses from 23 species, and found severe injuries including skull fractures, brain hemorrhages, and ruptured organs. Moreover, injuries that result in death are not always visible to the naked eye; researchers determined the true extent of the internal damage by using X-rays. Ruddy Ground Dove and Pale-breasted Thrush were noted as the most frequently colliding species. This new research underscores the urgent need for better protection measures. The cost of inaction is too high. We must treat every pane of external glass to safeguard rapidly dwindling avian populations. Wow, New York really knows how to show its love for birds! We felt that love at the NYC Bird Alliance’s Fall Roost, where Feather Friendly VP Paul Groleau joined a fantastic group of bird enthusiasts to raise nearly $398,000 for bird conservation in New York. It’s inspiring to see so many people come together to do their part for birds in times where extinctions and heavy population declines loom large. We’re excited to be part of this amazing community working hard to make New York a safer place for birds. The momentum must not stop here and there’s much more to be done before we can say that our skies are truly safe for birds! #nyc #conservation #avianconservation #birds #featherfriendly #biodiversity #sustainaibility
We had an amazing night at NYC Bird Alliance’s annual Fall Roost gala at Tavern on the Green! 🎉✨ It was inspiring to bring together conservationists, bird lovers, and community leaders in celebration of our shared mission.
