National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) a campaign from Ontario Disability Employment Network (ODEN) takes place annually in October, promoting disability inclusion in business and the workplace. Light It Up! For NDEAM is a national lighting event held the third Thursday of every October where businesses light up in Purple. The annual NDEAM campaign is designed to get you thinking and to motivate the community to drive action on disability inclusion. This campaign supports ODEN members in our efforts to: 💜 Educate businesses about community employment services 💜 Spread the word about the benefits of disability-inclusive hiring 💜 Raise businesses’ awareness about disability 💜Help local businesses with their plans for growth and success

As a part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month tonight’s #LightltUpForNDEAM, we illuminate in purple to help raise awareness and spotlight how people with disabilities can help companies be successful and competitive - something we at SOAR Community Services believe strongly.   💜 Our head office is shining bright tonight.  💜   #NDEAM

Today we join our colleagues at Fedcap in the UK, as we recognize Wear Red Day. #WearRedDay is a campaign by Show Racism the Red Card - the UK's leading anti-racism educational charity. The organization spreads awareness and delivers training to dismantle racism in England, Scotland, and Wales, and was actually started by high-profile soccer players (that's football if you're in the UK!) Taking a stand against racism should happen all days of the year, and we're excited to be showing our support to our UK colleagues for this awesome campaign ❤️ Thank you for including us.

On November 13th, Fedcap Canada will host a one-hour session with guest speakers from Rainbow Railroad as part of our "Amplified Voices" Series. This session will provide great insights on our newcomer jobseekers, including those fleeing identity-based persecution - something we are seeing more of in the regions where we work. As we aim to inform and build the capacity of our employment service providers in the region, it is important for us to hear from and learn from non-profits like Rainbow Railroad who are at the forefront of change and can help us understand how to better serve our LGBTQI+ jobseekers.

Today on the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Gender Diverse People, we marked the day in Niagara on the Lake where Grandmother Jackie Labonte led the Sisters in Spirit vigil, which took place at Willowbank - where the Indigenous Community Love garden is located. After a traditional opening and smudging ceremony she shared teachings and spoke to the loss in community, of children from the Residential Schools and the on-going loss of Indigenous women, girls and 2-spirit people in Canada, now estimated to be in the thousands. Grandmother Jackie also spoke of hope and change, and the strength that comes from us all standing together.

In our Hamilton office, our 'Every Child Matters' flag stays up year round. We choose to leave the flag up as a daily reminder of the individual, family and community inter-generational impact of residential schools.   Today on September 30th - National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - we pay special tribute by wearing orange, attending local events, and honouring the children who never came home. We will never forget.   #TruthAndReconciliation #OrangeShirtDay #EveryChildMatters #NDTR
