📢 Shake Up The Establishment is thrilled to announce our collaboration with (FES) Finance Engage Sustain | Financer Engager Soutenir and Women's Healthy Environments Network (WHEN) on launching a national youth-led public consultation campaign to engage youth - particularly those from marginalized backgrounds - in shaping how the federal government upholds the newly enshrined Right to a Healthy Environment under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). This right was introduced into federal law in June 2023 as part of the updated CEPA. 🍃 This Fall, with funding from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) and Trottier Family Foundation, SUTE, FES, and WHEN will host 6 public consultations, 1 virtual and 5 in-person events in Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Calgary, and Vancouver, as well as distribute an online survey. These consultations will provide safe spaces for equity-deserving youth to learn about CEPA, discuss what a healthy environment means to them, and contribute their perspectives on how the government should ensure that everyone in Canada benefits from this right. 📝 Earlier this year both SUTE and WHEN authored reports providing feedback on the Discussion Document as part of the public consultation period. SUTE’s report featuring equity-centred & community-informed feedback was endorsed by WHEN, Green Ummah, Community Climate Council, FES, Sustainable Youth Canada, and CoSphere.
