Eliminating Barriers. Inspiring Young Minds.
About us
Education transforms lives. First Book Canada is building a world where every child has access to a quality education. We work to remove barriers to education and level the playing field for kids in need. At the heart of our work are the 20,000 members of the First Book Canada Network. This Network is the key to creating systemic change. We conduct research studies that aggregate their voices to identify barriers to equitable education and inform strategic solutions. To address their needs, we provide free and low-cost books, resources and access to leading experts. We use aggregated buying power to influence what is published or created to support this underserved community. Since 2009 First Book Canada has worked with educators and partners to identify and remove the barriers to learning and resources, levelling the educational playing field and transforming the lives of kids in need. On October 7th, we launched Bookshelves for Better, an initiative that brings together Canadian children’s book illustrators to create custom bookshelves for kids. Our online auction is still live, featuring one-of-a-kind creations and an incredible interactive virtual workshop with author and illustrator Ruth Ohi. We set a goal to raise $1,500 to kick-start the holiday giving season, and with only 2 days left, be sure to get your final bids in and help us exceed that goal! All funds raised will directly support efforts to break down literacy barriers for kids in need and will be donated to help expand First Book Canada’s programming nationwide. Visit https://lnkd.in/gMJ-aH2J to place your bids. Pictured: Bookshelf designed by Clayton Nguyen Bookshelves for Better is open now until October 18. Special thanks to Craft Public Relations for their support in our mission, and thank you to all our donors for your continued support! #Auction #Fundraise #BooksToKids #ReadNow #Charity #Goal #Canada #KidsLit #CharityCanada #UnlockAChildsStory

We’re excited to launch Bookshelves for Better, an initiative that unites Canadian children’s book illustrators to create custom bookshelves for kids. These artists have donated their talent to design unique shelves, perfect for any reading nook. The one-of-a-kind creations are being auctioned to support efforts that break down literacy barriers for children in need, with all proceeds donated to help to expand First Book Canada’s programming nationwide. The auction is now live and each of the bookshelves are available for bids. The highest bidder will have the opportunity to keep their bookshelf to inspire others, or choose to donate it to a local school, where a student will have the chance to win it and take it home, filled with brand new books. Bidding for Bookshelves for Better is open now through Thanksgiving, until October 18. Visit https://lnkd.in/gMJ-aH2J to place your bids. A HUGE thanks to Craft Public Relations for their help with this initiative and for everything they do to support First Book Canada. #BookshelvesForBetter #BooksToKids #ReadNow #FundraiseCanada #Donate #GiveBack #CharityCanada
