Again, wonderful praise from Lendyl D'Souza! Such a pleasure to with with you, Dr. Zeljka Adzija & Marta Vitale; all all the lovely Toronto Catholic District School Board teachers that make the SHSM program so successful! James MacDonald & Justin Labelle were so engaging and informative. I loved watching them connect with students and the innovative and exciting opportunities made by students within their sessions! Thank you for Toronto Catholic District School Board for allowing us the opportunity to see your wonderful youth in action and thank you to Ornge for sharing your talented and experienced employees with us. Hearing from them really gave students a better understanding of opportunities in Emergency Services, Health Care and Transportation within Ornge! #SHSM
On Wednesday December 6th, Toronto Catholic District School Board JCSES, Transportation, and Health & Wellness SHSM students from St. Mary, Michael Power • St. Joseph, and James Cardinal McGuigan attended ICE training through a Sector Partner Experience as presented by Flashpoint Training & Leadership Development at the Canoe Landing Community Recreation Centre. ICE training takes a process-based approach to innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship; it encourages the application of key skills to a unique experience solving real-world, sector-relevant challenges, developed in consultation with industry partners. During their ICE training, students met with and learned from James MacDonald and Justin Labelle. James is the Director, Communications and Public Affairs at Ornge Global Air, and Justin is the Director, Flight Operations Safety At Ornge Global Air. Ornge Global Air provides high quality air ambulance service and medical transport to people who are critically ill or injured. In the air and on the ground, their job is to be there for patients, so they can get safe and timely care, transport and access to health services they need. The Ornge Head Office is located in Mississauga, Ontario; however, there are 14 bases located across the province. Ornge uses helicopters, airplanes or land ambulances depending on the nature of the call. SHSM Students were informed that Ornge is currently navigating challenges with employee retention in Northern regions of Ontario. They were tasked to determine new ways to attract and retain employees across multiple sectors, while considering how the organization can enhance its current strategies in keeping and supporting its current dedicated workforce. Each group presented their ideas and solutions to James and Justin for them to adjudicate and provide feedback a la “Dragon’s Den” style. It was wonderful to witness the problem-solving skills and creativity that each group of students brought forward. Thanks to Flashpoint and everyone involved in making the day a huge success! #shsm #TCDSB #changethegame #jcses #emergencyservices #ornge #teachthis #ice #innovation #creativity #entrepreneurship 🚑🚁🚨🆘 🏥🦺🛟🩺👩🏼⚕️🧑⚕️👨⚕️⛑️
