About us
When we first sowed the seed for what was to become Fresh Direct Produce, our intention was to introduce an unparalleled service providing cost-effective selection of the best produce the world has to offer. We wanted to provide the fruits and vegetables that will go on the table in homes and restaurants, to nourish the body and soul. Our vision is to be a healthy difference in people's lives through food that is the basis for celebration and bonding, and a connection to each other's communities and heritage. Over the last 15 years we have tended to this vision, and it is our commitment to the future. When we started, we were 11 people and two trucks serving our local community. Today we have grown to over 220 people and a fleet of 26 trucks that operate out of three distribution centers (two in Vancouver, one in Calgary). In order to deliver the best quality freshness to our customers, timing and conditions are critical. Our operations are supported by advanced data sensors and logistics systems to get things to where they need to go quickly; as well as large climate-controlled ripening rooms, for when things just need a little more time. Along every step of the way, our knowledgeable team works hard to ensure that the food on your table is deliciously fresh and nutritious. Beginning with our global buyers, to the logistics planners, warehouse workers, inspectors and managers, and ending with the driver that delivers pallets of fresh produce to the loading bays of large chain stores or the backdoor of a neighbourhood grocer; everyone plays a vital part. On the inside, it is a complex operation, from the outside it's just Simply Fresh®.

We are thrilled to announce that our President, Greg Ogiba, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the The Ontario Produce Marketing Association (OPMA). Greg is dedicated to driving the consumption of healthy fruits & veggies in this province and beyond, and we're excited that he'll be in a position to help advance the industry as an OPMA Director. Equally exciting is the election of two of our friends to the OPMA Board, Eric Biddiscombe and Frank Spagnuolo. Their deep industry experience and passion will undoubtedly contribute to the continued success and growth of the association. A sincere thanks to the outgoing chairman, Adam Donikian from Sobeys, for his outstanding leadership over the past year. Fresh Direct Produce Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Shane Kearney (Shane K.) a as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Mr. Kearney will join the Executive Leadership Team and report directly to our President, Adri De Wet. Shane brings over 15 years of expertise in finance, strategy, and operational excellence across the insurance, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical manufacturing sectors. He has been instrumental in key achievements such as global pricing and commercialization of new products, leading financial transformations, overseeing major acquisitions, and driving revenue growth and operational efficiencies. His diverse and extensive public company experience will provide Fresh Direct Produce Ltd. with valuable insights and leadership in strategic management, operational efficiencies, and financial best practices. In his new role, Shane will oversee all corporate finance functions, including audit, treasury, tax, insurance, operations planning and analysis (OP&A), corporate controllership, and business insights and analytics. Prior to joining Fresh Direct Produce Ltd., Shane held several senior leadership positions, including Vice President at BZAM and Director at PTC Therapeutics, Inc. He also gained significant experience as a Financial Controller at AXA Travel Insurance and as an auditor with EY. Shane earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from University College Cork, Ireland, and holds the Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ireland. After 14 years of dedicated service, our Chief Financial Officer, Jozef Hubburmin, CPA, CMA, C. Dir., has decided to retire. Jozef first joined the company in 2010 as our CFO; and he’s played a key role in developing the company's corporate strategy. He became fundamental for the company’s expansion into our Calgary Distribution Centre and assisting with M&A activities. During his years at FDP, he was also an important actor in the Industry, Co-Chairing the Marketing Committee of the BC Food & Beverage, as well as the Association’s Finance Peer Group. He was elected to the BC Food & Beverage's Board of Directors and was appointed Treasurer for three years, and then the Executive as Secretary for an additional three years. Jozef also served on the Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA) Board of Directors since 2022, and served on the Board of the Finance & Budget Committee for the International Fresh Produce Association (Produce Marketing Association) from 2018 to 2021, and then the International Fresh Produce Association’s Budget & Finance Council since 2022. We are immensely grateful for Jozef’s leadership, experience, and unwavering commitment to our company’s success throughout his tenure. His contributions have been invaluable, and he will be deeply missed. On behalf of the Fresh Direct Produce Group of Companies, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Jozef for everything that he has done for the company.
