📢 Reflecting on the Evolution of Media and the Future of Storytelling with a video I recorded 12 years ago. I was asked to present twice this past week to one group of students at The Murphy Centre and another group at MUN Business. It has prompted me to dig deep into my archives of videos and documents. I had the responsibility at one time in my career as Director of Digital Products and Operations to innovate and invigorate the declining revenue of the newspaper business. Myself and a team of people across many provinces worked very very hard to bring in digital revenue. We did everything in our power to bring in revenue and we did quite well for a period of time extending the life of the papers for at least a decade. The precipitous decline however of the printed product made the job of survival almost impossible. Despite our best efforts, the traditional industry has faced an unavoidable decline. This is a deeply personal topic for me having dedicated 22 years of my life to making the newspapers in Canada in Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador stronger. Speaking for my colleagues who I hope wade into this conversation we believed in our core that we could make it work. Now, as the founder of Gale Force Wins, it’s obvious how challenging it is to maintain legacy media amidst rapid digital transformation. Today’s communities need stories that reflect their evolving world, delivered through trusted voices and adaptable digital platforms. Podcasts and curated content are more than just media—they’re the future of local storytelling. As we move forward, we are dedicated to building a pure digital presence with Gale Force Wins, connecting people, ideas, and industries through stories that resonate and build trust. Stay tuned as we shape a new path forward in media—one conversation at a time. #MediaEvolution #DigitalTransformation #GaleForceWins #Storytelling
