To gain unlimited access to view the wells that were spud and put into production since the last land sale occurred in British Columbia and to see where there are open Montney P&NG Crown rights available across the Montney fairway, register for a free Starter Plan account here: https://lnkd.in/gRU8As8i The last land sale held in British Columbia was in May 2021. The land sales were first interrupted by COVID-19 in 2020 and then by the Blueberry River First Nations court decision in 2021. 📅 In July 2024, the B.C. Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation announced that sales will resume in December of this year and will be conducted monthly, as was the case before this long pause. For the first sale, the closing date to request to post lands was Aug. 13, the date the public notice will be published is Nov. 7, and the disposition date will be Dec. 4. 💡 The gDC Cloud map below highlights where Montney open P&NG Crown rights are currently available to be posted (in green). As expected, most of the available Montney rights are on the outer boundaries of the Montney fairway, mainly due to depth on the west side and well-known pressure changes on the east side as the reservoir goes into the conventional pressure regime (presence of water). There are also open Montney rights throughout the Montney fairway due to surface restrictions, which are predominantly First Nations traditional land-related. 💡 The 2024 Montney expiries are also plotted on the map (in yellow). However, once expanded, it can be seen that most of the expiry lands will be continued with the drilling of several wells on, or offsetting, the drilling licences and leases. With the land sale hiatus, the B.C. Ministry extended the expiries since companies could not get well licences approved during this same time period. 📊 Since the last land sale in May 2021, there have been 1,649 wells spud in B.C. and 1,230 wells put on production. Cumulative gas produced from the 1,230 wells to date is 2.5 tcf, all from the Montney formation (see gDC Cloud map above). Based on the significant amount of drilling that occurred since the last land sale and the large amount of gas and condensate produced from the Montney, it will not be surprising to see a significant amount of land posted in the next few land sales and throughout 2025. The Montney rights will more than likely be posted in phases in order for the B.C. Ministry to attract the highest prices possible. To gain unlimited access to the exploratory wells spudded in the last year and a half in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, register for a free Starter Plan account here: https://lnkd.in/gRU8As8i Since January 2023 there have been 241 exploratory wells spud – Alberta (203), Saskatchewan (37), and Manitoba (1). To search for exploratory wells in gDC Cloud the designations on the well tickets are different in Alberta than in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Alberta uses XPL (Exploratory) while Saskatchewan and Manitoba use NPW (New Pool Wildcat), OUT (Outpost) and/or NFW (New Field Wildcat). In Alberta, there were 203 XPL wells spudded, while in Saskatchewan/Manitoba there were 22 NFW, 9 OUT, and 7 NFW. Out of the 241 exploratory wells spudded 201 were Horizontals, 22 Deviated, and 18 Verticals. The Top 10 operators that spudded exploratory wells since January 2023 were: ·        Rubellite Energy Inc. (32) ·        Spur Petroleum Ltd. (20) ·        Highwood Asset Management Ltd. (16) ·        Vesta Energy Ltd. (16) ·        Cenovus Energy Inc. (14) ·        Andrich Resources (11) ·        Capillary Resources Corp. (9) ·        Persist Oil & Gas Inc. (9) ·        Pointbreak Resources Inc. (9) ·        West Lake Energy Corp. (9) While development drilling continues in the key plays of the WCSB unabated, exploratory wells enable companies to expand existing pool boundaries, test new formations on existing assets or test new ideas that will open up new core areas for growth. The pure exploration wells (i.e. away from existing development) will become the next focus areas and, once drilled and tested, will lead to the posting of new land sales to capture additional land for future development. 📢 NEW multi-lateral data for Western Canada is coming soon to geoLOGIC’s data solutions. 📢 An ever increasing number of lateral legs are being drilled in key plays in Alberta. These new well designs not only improve overall productivity and open more of the reservoir to production, but also reduce the environmental impact of drilling rigs, production trees and other surface infrastructure required for the field development. Until now, it’s been difficult to get access to a comprehensive and curated dataset that provides the granularity to assess multi-lateral well performance. These wells are reported as a single license (UWI), with associated laterals or legs identified by incrementing the event sequence for the UWI. The problem is, at the time when UWIs and the systems used to handle well data were created, no one could foresee a well having more than 9 well events. As a result, multi-lateral well data is available for the first 9 legs only. ➡️ To address this problem, geoLOGIC has created a multi-lateral dataset within our analysis tools. This provides a deeper technical understanding of multi-lateral well performance regardless of the number of lateral legs. Users will now be able to: ✔️ Search for and see an indicator that a well is multi-lateral. ✔️ View the well’s Multi-Lateral Length (MLL = the sum of all the legs’ lateral lengths). ✔️ View the number of lateral legs for the well, and each of their unique lengths. ✔️ Compare production-per-metre based on a well’s MLL and view the event that is reporting production. 🖥️ Access to this new data and functionality will be available in July in geoLOGIC’s gDC and geoSCOUT Version 9.1. 📧 For further details, contact our Solutions team at solutions@geologic.com or 403-648-1700.

To gain unlimited access to view wells coming off confidential status, register for a free account: https://lnkd.in/gRU8As8i 💡 Over 1,750 wells are coming off confidential status in the remainder of 2024. This information is watched very closely by industry, as technical data (such as producing hours, LAS logs, tests, cores, completion details, drilling tour reports) when released provide crucial insight into operators’ performance including an assessment on how successful they have been in turning undeveloped resources into reserves or expanding existing development areas. 🔳 The 1,754 wells that come off confidential status in 2024 Q2 to Q4 target numerous formations, with the Montney having the highest number of wells coming off confidentiality (443), followed by the Clearwater (355). The Sparky, Viking and Duvernay formations round out the top five, each with just under 100 wells on confidential status. A recent uptick in activity for Mannville, Ellerslie and Charlie Lake put them on the list as well. 🔳 The top operators on the confidential well list (by well count for the Q2 to Q4 period) are the Clearwater operators, as exploration and development continues. In the Clearwater, Rubellite Energy tops the list with 179 wells, followed by Spur Petroleum with 92 and Tamarack Valley Energy with 48 wells. Generally, in North America, regulators make well data available, including producing hours, tests, completions, formations, logs, etc., after the period of confidentiality defined in the licensing agreement. The longest lateral length was drilled by Archer Exploration Corp. at 100/01-17-071-08W6 in the Elmworth area and targeted the Charlie Lake formation. This Charlie Lake well was spud on Jan. 3, 2024, and drilled to a total measured depth of 8,262 metres with the lateral being 5,892.9 metres. The well was put on production on Feb. 18, 2024, and has produced 53,641 boe to-date (~78% oil). Data is functionally released from confidential status weekly in Alberta and B.C. and on the day confidential status ends in Saskatchewan.
