In an article for the Financial Reporter, our Director of Regulatory Intelligence, Rob Mason speaks on how non-financial misconduct (NFM) is becoming a significant challenge for the financial services industry, in the same way that financial misconduct has always been. The #FCA has made NFM a priority, highlighted by a recent "Dear CEO" letter from the regulator to senior executives at wholesale brokerages, and a survey revealing over 2,300 reported incidents across 1,000 firms. FCA leadership stresses that workplace culture influences financial outcomes and expects firms to enforce compliance through proper controls. To address NFM, firms must actively shape culture through clear policies, training, and enforcement mechanisms. Training should define unacceptable behaviors using real-world examples and look to ensure employees understand that misconduct will be detected and addressed. Mason concludes that not only are effective surveillance and risk identification frameworks crucial for detecting and preventing NFM, but also that “action needs to come both from the top down and the bottom up.” Read the full article here: https://ow.ly/fyWs50Vqgsk
