GlobeScan CEO, Chris Coulter speaking at the "Pathway Towards Fair and Responsible Consumption" Action Speaks event, powered by Ingka Group | IKEA during #ClimateWeekNYC! 👇 Thanks for sharing Karen Pflug!
What an exciting day in New York! For the second year in a row, I had the pleasure of joining the Action Speaks summit during Climate Week. I was part of the Pathways for Responsible Consumption session alongside Chris Coulter, Ellen Jackowski, and Eyal Weintraub sharing how businesses, consumers, and governments can work together to drive systemic change and ensure sustainable solutions are affordable and accessible. I’m also happy to announce that today we officially launched a new Action Speaks online platform, developed in close collaboration with Project Drawdown and the World Economic Forum. The Action Speaks platform aims to: 🤝 Drive open collaboration 🤝Lead action across private, public, and NGO sectors 🤝Search for solutions 🤝Learn from examples 🤝Replicate successful strategies 🤝Act on impactful and scalable solutions Action Speaks means optimism, possibility, and climate action at scale and speed. By sharing successful initiatives from across sectors, we hope to inspire industry peers and leaders to act by learning, adapting, and investing in more sustainable solutions. How are people experiencing the effects of climate change? GlobeScan's latest Radar research finds that nearly two-thirds of the global public who feel personally affected by climate change experience it through extreme heat, followed by soaring food prices, drought, adverse health impacts, and flooding. These findings highlight the increasing importance of two key themes in climate action today: adapting to the impacts of climate change, such as heat risk, and transforming the food system to ensure better climate resiliency and food security in the coming years. Our activities at #ClimateWeekNYC kicked off with the event ‘How to make the SDGs consequential for business’, hosted with World Benchmarking Alliance, GlobeScan, and NYU Stern Center for Sustainable Business. It explored what governments need to effectively engage businesses in the path towards the #SDGs, and how #corporatereporting can be instrumental🌍It also launched the report ‘How to strengthen corporate accountability: The case for unlocking sustainable corporate performance through mandatory corporate reporting’. According to this new research, jointly developed with #WBA: ✅ Application of the #GRIStandards correlates with improved corporate social performance, as measured by WBA’s Social Benchmark. ✅ Companies including a GRI Content Index in their reports typically achieve a Social Benchmark score at least 47% higher than other companies. ✅ Organizations that report ‘in accordance’ with the GRI Standards consistently outperform those that only reference them. What this underlines is that #sustainabilityreporting can be directly linked to positive #social impact, and there’s an urgent need to implement measures to make it mandatory 📝 Peter Paul Van De Wijs | Camila Corradi Bracco | Randi Kronthal-Sacco | Gerbrand Haverkamp | Chris Coulter | Julie Miville-Dechene | Malu Pinto e Paiva | David McKean | Sebnem Sener | Richard Gardiner | Gabriel Presler Learn more and download the publication 👉 https://lnkd.in/gE_7zNpy

Nearly half of people globally say they feel personally impacted by climate change. Will this unprecedented level of concern translate into active support for climate policy and action? As we approach #ClimateWeekNYC we enter a pivotal moment in addressing escalating concerns about climate change. The response to the climate crisis will be diverse and unpredictable. Some will call for action, others will focus on adaptation, and some may deny the reality of climate change. Leaders from government, business, and civil society must navigate this complex environment and adapt their communication strategies to effectively engage with the public.
