Introducing Our Flight Reviewer of the Month: Alex Pym! We’re thrilled to spotlight Alex Pym as our Flight Reviewer of the Month! With a foundational 7 reviews conducted, Alex brings a wealth of experience and passion to our team. One of his favourite moments? During an advanced flight review, he encountered a professional dog trainer at the park. The trainer asked if he could test his dog’s control around the drone. The result? The dog passed with flying colours, completely unfazed by the drone and performing beautifully! Favourite Drone: M350 with L2 payload Background: Alex currently works full-time as the Innovation Coordinator at ISL Engineering, a Western Canada civil engineering company. In this capacity, he helps to oversee and deliver drone programs across the company with training, reviews, procurement, and research and development. Prior to his current role, he served in the RCAF as a pilot and obtained his Bachelors and Masters in Aerospace Engineering from RMC. Since the early days of drone technology, he has been flying for personal use and has even built a couple of his own drones. He also worked for Boeing for a few years in Engineering and Flight Data Analytics. Follow him on Instagram: @alexander.pym Connect on LinkedIn: Alex Pym | LinkedIn

FAQ: Can I Use a Drone for Commercial Purposes After Completing Training? A: Yes, you can! Both Basic and Advanced certificates are okay for making money, however, to say "yes" to most commercial operations, you'll need an Advanced Operations Certificate. There's a need for drone pilots for activities like: * Aerial photography * Surveying and mapping * Inspections and monitoring Some specific commercial uses might also require additional permissions or certifications, so be sure to check the regulations that apply to your particular service. Have questions about drone certification or commercial use? Drop them in the comments below!

Reminder: Keep a safe distance from animals and wildlife when flying your drones. Here’s why it’s super important: 1. Minimize Stress: Drones can be really stressful for animals, causing them to flee or disrupt their natural behaviours. 2. Preserve Habitats: Close encounters can damage delicate ecosystems and disturb nesting sites. 3. Legal Consequences: Flying too close to wildlife can result in hefty fines and legal trouble. Stay informed about local regulations to avoid costly mistakes! Check out this article from this summer where a BC company was fined $30 000! https://lnkd.in/gYjVw2PP Respecting wildlife and following the rules helps protect our natural world and ensures everyone can enjoy it safely.

Introducing the September Flight Reviewer of the Month: Flight Reviewer: Arden Shibley Reviews Conducted: 49 reviews conducted I think the things that stand out most to me about doing reviews is  - Folks bringing checklists of checklists rather than checklists themselves - A German pilot that had a metal laser-engraved registration # for recovery in case of fire, by requirement(?) of German drone laws! Favourite Drone: - I love the Inspire 3, particularly the DJI RC Plus controller. What a fantastic experience! The I3 is so incredibly stable at low altitudes, too (dual GNSS and IMU on point) Yellowhouse Aerial has had the pleasure of providing aerials for the Department of Defence, for Apple Music, National Geographic, Netflix, Disney+, and more. Specializing in multi-operator cinematography, Owner and lead pilot Arden Shibley works with directors and agencies across Western Canada and into the United States, with an emphasis on visual precision and clarity.

Our flight reviewers bring a wealth of experience, knowledge, and passion to every review, ensuring that each candidate is ready to take to the skies safely and confidently. Let’s start with our very own Flight Reviewer: Kate Klassen - Reviews Conducted: 150 - Fun Fact: I have had two candidates crash drones during reviews. One went on to pass, and one failed based on how they reacted to the situation. Use those emergency procedures, folks! - Favourite Drone: Minis are a ton of fun, but there’s something special about the Wayfinder. What I Love About Doing Reviews: My favourite part about conducting reviews is learning about the interesting, unique, and forward-thinking applications for drone tech that the candidates are pursuing.
