Goodwill Industries Ontario Great Lakes (GOGL) is the leader of the Canadian Hub which is one of the four regional textile processing hubs developed through our ongoing work with Goodwill. Over the past two years, our team has partnered with GOGL on the development of their hub which aims to keep textiles in use as long as possible and recycle used textiles that are no longer rewearable. Our team is excited about GOGL's focus on applying the #textilewaste hierarchy at every stage of their operations from the implementation of new initiatives to increase apparel reuse rates, the development of textile recycling feedstock supplanting the need for virgin resource extraction, and their innovative downcycling initiatives to funnel non-recyclable material to downstream applications in other industries such as shoddy. Through our partnership, GOGL carried out a sorting study to reveal over 10 millions pounds of #cotton and #polyester materials that could be potentially transformed into textile-to-textile recycling feedstock. This work furthers GOGL's mission of job creation, training, and environmental sustainability. GOGL predicts that these new initiatives will create several new green jobs on their team. We're thrilled to have hosted the London Chamber of Commerce Business After 5 event at the Goodwill Centre in London! It was an incredible evening of networking and learning, with delicious food catered by our very own Edgar and Joe’s Café. At the event, we were proud to showcase our circularity projects at one of our booths, highlighting how sustainability and community impact drive everything we do. Our CEO, Beverley Kobe, also highlighted the important work ClothingWorks is doing in our communities with their annual coat drives—last year handing out 5000 coats to those most in need. From thrift store operations to empowering job seekers, we're committed to creating a greener, more inclusive future.
