Through a variety of weather conditions this week at Wapiti Shooters Club, all 12 members of the Grande Prairie Police Service Recruit Class #1 successfully earned their C8 Colt Canada patrol carbine certification, covering the use, carry, and upkeep of the service rifles. The course takes one week, and members will take a one-day recertification course every year.

The Grande Prairie Police Service was proud to take in today's Indigenous Veterans Day ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Gardens & Interpretive Centre. The day was established in 1993 to honour the thousands of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit who served in the Canadian Armed Forces, recognizing they did not receive equal treatment compared to other Canadian Veterans.

Due to significant interest from the B.C. Lower Mainland, the Grande Prairie Police Service will be in the area next week to connect with interested experienced officers and recruit applicants. Recruiters will be at the Pan Pacific Vancouver for the Vancouver Job Fair and Training Expo on November 12th and later that night will offer a chance to write the Alberta Police Cognitive Ability Test, which is one of the first steps toward a policing career in Alberta and can be taken even before applying. Members of the Grande Prairie Police Service, Grande Prairie Enforcement Services, and Mobile Outreach took part in a KAIROS Blanket Exercise facilitated by Northwestern Polytechnic last week. The exercise is an experiential teaching tool that explores the historic and contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada, including local testimonials. Local Indigenous learning is a part of GPPS' training for recruits and experienced officers, also extended to other GPPS employees, Grande Prairie Enforcement Services, and Mobile Outreach workers, who transitioned under the Grande Prairie Police Service at the beginning of 2024.

The Grande Prairie Police Service will be taking part in Tuesday morning's Breakfast with the Guys, an initiative led by a coalition of organizations and businesses, dedicated to inspiring action and raising awareness to end domestic violence. This will be the 14th year the event is put on, bring together people from across the community to make a difference. The Grande Prairie Police Service is excited to take part in this year's Battle of the Badges, a charity hockey game between local firefighters and police officers. This year's battle will take place at 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 1st at Bonnetts Energy Centre, following the annual Christmas Tree Light-Up event. Admission is by donation, with the funds raised supporting Helping Hands of Grande Prairie through the Grande Prairie Firefighters Charitable Foundation.
