🚗💨 This month, a few of our team members had the opportunity to participate in and sponsor the Miles 4 Smiles event, supporting the Grand River Hospital Foundation’s mission to enhance children’s care in our community. Held at the Grand Bend Motorplex, this endurance race brought together the construction and landscape industries for a day filled with friendly competition and impactful fundraising. Each lap took us closer to better healthcare and more support for families in the Kitchener-Waterloo region. A special thank you to EllisDon, GSP Group Inc., T. There is a reason why they call it PUBLIC space. When there is a once-in-a-generation redesign of a major civic space, like St. George's Square in downtown Guelph, residents want to participate! Back in September a couple of our GSP Team members, Mandy Cadger and Olivia Scibetta, attended the ABC Recreation Inclusive Play Tour at Gibson Park in Elmira and Riverside Park in Guelph. They started off the day with a powerful presentation by Jill Moore, an Inclusive Play Specialist with Landscape Structures, entitled ‘A Higher Level of Inclusive Play’. Our staff learned to think about play for families living with visible and non-visible disabilities. In collaboration with Brook McIlroy and Kayanase Greenhouse, GSP Group provided landscape architectural services for the Gathering Circle at the University of Waterloo. Designed as a focal point for learning, reflection, and celebration, the Gathering Circle offers a meaningful space for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous members of the UW community. Today, the Gathering Circle hosts Orange Shirt Day, a moment to reflect on the legacy of residential schools and to foster healing and reconciliation. Every child matters, and we unite in honoring the strength and resilience of Indigenous communities. The day will consist of a sunrise ceremony, commitment polishing ceremony, remarks, a walk around Ring Road, a feast, drumming and dancing. We are pleased to announce that GSP Group, in collaboration with The Working Centre and Perimeter Development, is providing planning and landscape architecture services for the redevelopment of properties at 83, 87, and 97 Victoria Street North in Kitchener. This project will create 44 transitional housing units at NinetySeven Victoria, aimed at supporting individuals facing homelessness by providing essential services and common areas for residents. We are also excited to share that The Working Centre recently announced a $2.24 million investment from the Government of Canada for the new community space at St. John’s Kitchen. A key feature of the project will be the Community Courtyard, designed as a vibrant gathering space equipped with flexible seating and durable landscaping to accommodate daily activities and special events. The plant selections will include low-maintenance perennials and ornamental grasses, ensuring a visually appealing and sustainable environment. Celebrating a remarkable career! Brenda Khes MCIP, RPP, will be retiring at the end of this year after 38 years of working in the planning profession, including leading GSP Group’s Hamilton office for over 13 years. Her retirement will be in effect as of December 31, 2024. Brenda joined GSP Group in 2011 to lead the firm’s Hamilton office. Brenda has grown the Hamilton office from a team of one, to a team of ten planning, urban design and landscape architecture professionals. Throughout her career, Brenda committed to providing sound planning representation on her vast portfolio of projects within the public and private sector. Brenda has recently transitioned her role from Vice President, Hamilton to Principal Planner. GSP Group will contact clients individually to discuss the transition of specific projects that Brenda is currently involved in. GSP Group wishes Brenda Khes a happy and restful retirement, and all the best in the next chapter, enjoying time with her family and grandchildren.
