We need to stop blaming the victims of cyber crime, just like we don't blame my neighbour who was carjacked at the gas station. These scams are very well crafted to target a specific type of person. By blaming victims and saying they should know better, we are re-victimizing them. We push the impact out of sight and miss an opportunity to teach more people. Most of us in the cyber security space, know how vulnerable SMBs are yet we also know that many owners think they are too small to be attacked. Imagine how we could flip the narrative if owners felt safe to talk about what happened to them so that others may avoid a similar fate. Again, we wouldn't blame the owner of a business who's door got kicked in, why do we blame them when the digital gets the same treatment?
