About us
Hackergal is a Canadian charity with a mission to change the face of computer science and pave the way for a technology industry that is diverse and inclusive of girls and young women in underrepresented groups across Canada. We work directly with education systems and organizations across the country, providing educators, facilitators, and parents with the tools they need to expose girls to coding education in their schools, communities, and at home. Woven into everything we do is a commitment to reach more girls in more places, with a focus on BIPOC communities, French-speaking Canada, and northern, remote and rural Canada. Hackergal is committed to diversity and inclusion. We use an inclusive definition of “girls” and “women” and welcome the participation of all learners who identify as girls. This includes trans girls because we recognize trans girls are girls. We also welcome the participation of gender-fluid, non-binary, and two-spirit learners.

To celebrate, we’re highlighting some of our amazing community partners who are inspiring interest, confidence and inclusion for girls and women in STEM. • Women in Science and Engineering Newfoundland and Labrador (WISE NL) brings together students from rural communities to learn more about Indigenous culture and explore STEM-based programs and careers. • Actua works to cultivate equity in STEM through various initiatives, including their National Girls Program, which engaged nearly 70,000 girls and young women in 2024. • Hackergal helps Canada’s future tech leaders explore coding and network with accomplished women in the field. What an unforgettable day co-hosting the 3rd Annual Raptors Hackathon! 🏀✨ On January 19th, we teamed up with the Toronto Raptors Basketball Club Inc. to inspire the next generation of tech leaders. The all-girls Hackathon 3.0 Event kicked off with empowering talks from guest speakers like Jamaal Magloire and Kára Temple and our very own Lucy Ho hosted an ice-breaker challenging the underrepresentation of women in tech! From workshops on sports science and exploring the gender bias in AI to hands-on coding sessions, the energy and learning throughout the day was unmatched! We are so proud to collaborate with the Toronto Raptors to change the tech game!
