What’s your initial reaction when you hear the term “negotiation”? This week, our team member Michael is challenging us to take a different perspective. He highlights that negotiation is about finding common ground and maximising areas of shared interest — it isn't about identifying points of disagreement. While it’s often perceived negatively, he emphasises that it’s imperative to think about the term and the art of negotiating differently — “imagine you are standing on the edge of unexplored territory with a partner, at the brink of discovery and the opportunities are endless.” With that in mind, how can you redefine how you think about negotiation? Finally becoming a Business Trainer feels incredible.” “Coming from a sales background, this experience has shown me that you never stop learning – and there are many different aspects of sales. Being a Business Trainer means embracing lifelong learning. No matter how good you think you are, there are always people out there who can teach you more. Quality of the human skills training relies on the participants' engagement, motivation, and readiness to learn. Their questions, feedback, and interactions can elevate the entire experience, making it more dynamic and tailored. When participants bring their real-world experiences and scenarios into the training, it becomes more relevant and impactful. Conversely, passive or uninterested participants can drag the quality down. However, a skilled trainer who adapts to the group, provides clear explanations, and keeps everyone engaged is equally crucial. It’s a delicate balance between participation and facilitation. We would love to know what do you think!

How can we learn from others and challenge ourselves to dive into difficult conversations? Damian Killikelly, one of our Co-Founders and Business Trainers in the UK, shares the story of a participant who discovered the profound impact that difficult conversations can have on both personal and professional life. At the start of his career, this participant was aware that he tended to avoid confrontation but didn’t see it as a major issue. However, he quickly learned that each time he avoided a difficult conversation, the problem compounded, and the consequences grew. As he transitioned into leadership roles, the need to engage in these conversations became unavoidable. For example, when he felt that he deserved a salary increase, his decision not to voice his thoughts left him feeling undervalued, leading to financial and emotional strain. Avoiding these conversations began to harm his credibility, effectiveness, and his ability to build strong relationships. Over time, this avoidance stifled his leadership potential and personal growth. Moreover, this behavioural trait also spilled into his personal life, where he failed to address situations with his siblings, causing increased stress and distance in their relationships. “Ingrained habits, like avoiding confrontation, can seem manageable—until circumstances make them unavoidable,” points out Damian. During leadership training sessions, the participant had a transformative experience. One of the exercises involved giving direct feedback about trust to colleagues, and during this, he was told he couldn’t be trusted to have difficult conversations when necessary. This feedback immediately struck a chord. The impact of the feedback was magnified as it came from someone he greatly respected. Reflecting on the past, he realised how often he had shied away from difficult yet necessary discussions. This sparked a shift, and he began to tackle these discussions. One by one, he began to see improvements, including in his role, relationships (achieving a significant breakthrough with his brother), and overall career growth. Damian emphasises that the key to success is changing your mindset. “Rather than viewing these discussions as difficult, see them as merely addressing that a situation isn’t how it should be. Focus on resolving it with empathy and remember that there isn’t a perfect moment to start.” “It’s about your willingness to embrace vulnerability and tackle the behaviours that are holding you back. With the right mindset, you can overcome your fears and work towards self-improvement,” reveals Damian. If you feel inspired to grow personally, ask three people you respect for direct feedback. Next, look for common threads, identify behaviours that may be holding you back, prioritise what needs to change, and get started—because remember, only actions create lasting results. Have you ever wondered what sets a great trainer apart from the rest? This week, we’re featuring insights from our team member Aaron Marko, who emphasizes the importance of understanding the deeper motivation behind becoming a trainer. “When a candidate has a strong reason for wanting to train others, the how, when, and what, naturally fall into place. It’s the passion behind the why that drives their ability to engage and inspire others,” says Aaron. He believes great trainers are those motivated by a genuine desire to make an impact. “When someone has a clear and meaningful purpose, it shows in their delivery, their approach, and their results.” Take a moment to reflect on the trainers who have impacted you—what sets them apart? Today, we're sharing reflections from Nikola Nešić, who took a significant step in both his personal and professional journey when he decided to pursue his Business Trainer certificate. Reflecting on this experience, Nikola shares how the certification process proved to him that anything is possible. “I have learned that showing up with courage, perseverance, and a positive mindset will take you further than you can imagine.” “While the journey was challenging and rigorous, I often remembered my father’s wisdom: a goal gives meaning to the journey; without it, you won’t know where to go.” “After stepping out of my comfort zone and achieving this milestone, I feel I’ve laid the groundwork for the first stage of learning. As I continue on my journey, I look forward to supporting others in their pursuits and showing them that the possibilities are endless.” Nikola Nešić - Business Trainer - Serbia #PersonalGrowth #EndlessPossibilities #TeamHansenBeck
