In a landmark decision, Justice Ranjan Agarwal of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice awarded $200,000 in tort damages to a wife in a family matter. In coming to his decision, Justice Agarwal noted that intimate partner violence was a "pervasive social problem" and that the husband in this case assaulted, battered and intentionally inflicted mental suffering on his ex-wife. Armstrong found that a 2023 Order dividing property ought to be set aside and the matter be fully determined on its merits.
