Here's your cheat sheet of tough questions to ask during the interview: 👉 "How does the property measure success for the GM role?" Is it guest satisfaction scores? Revenue growth? Employee retention? This question helps you understand what they value most and whether the expectations are realistic. 👉 "What are the biggest challenges the hotel is currently facing?" This gives you a peek behind the curtain. Are they dealing with high turnover? Negative reviews? A shoestring budget? Be ready to assess if you’re up for the challenge. 👉 "What level of autonomy will I have in running this property?" Will you have the power to make decisions on staffing, budgets, and operations, or will you be micromanaged by corporate? 👉 "How does this property support its leadership team in achieving goals?" Are there systems, tools, and training in place to help you succeed? Or are you expected to perform miracles without resources? 👉 "What’s the culture like among the staff and leadership team?"
