Nurturing a Community of Caring
About us
Hollyburn Community Services Society provides unique services in response to existing and emerging community social needs on the North Shore. Our programs provide a range of support for youth, seniors and victims of relationship violence, family violence, sexualized assault, and criminal harassment. Hollyburn Community Services Society provides lifelong solutions for youth through emergency services, transitional housing, employment and work experience, and life and social skill development. We offer a wide range of services that support youth, who are experiencing barriers, to successfully transition to adulthood. From our Youth Safe House to programs like Life Success, Wired 4 Success and Hockey Heroes, we strive to make a difference in the lives of all the youth that walk through our doors. The Society supports seniors experiencing homelessness and those at risk of homelessness through several programs and services, including the Seniors at Housing Risk Outreach Program and the Supporting Seniors to Remain Housed program. Hollyburn’s Victim Support Program provides a range of support services free of charge to women, children, youth, and men who have been victims of relationship violence, family violence, sexualized assault, and criminal harassment. We provide services to residents of North and West Vancouver, including Bowen Island with a vision to end social vulnerabilities on the North Shore.

This past month members and supporters from the Hollyburn community gathered to celebrate 20 years of social change and progressive action! The event served as an opportunity to recognize the impact and legacy of Nanette Taylor, co-founder of HCSS and the visionary who's led the development of society programs over 20 years. Attendees also had the opportunity to meet and welcome Mark Friesen, the incoming Executive Director of the Society. Community leaders shared stories of how the organization has supported countless communities and individuals across the north shore. Thank you to all those who have partnered to support the mission of Hollyburn Community Services, and the many staff and volunteer leaders who've worked to expand the mission and purpose over time. Stay tuned: a new video highlighting the story of Hollyburn was revealed to attendees, which will be distributed online on November 1st! Follow along to experience this tribute to what's possible. And support another 20 years of impact by become a monthly donor at $20/month! https://lnkd.in/gMuvTPZc

This was an outstanding conference replete with learning and connections. Our team is incredibly inspired and encouraged at the prospects for land trusts to make an impact enhancing access to housing in communities across Canada. Thank you to the organizers, supporters, partners and attendees for making this event possible, and to 312 Main for hosting. To colleagues and supporters across #vancouver's #northshore: is it time for a North Shore Land Trust?!?
That's a wrap, folks! Our second annual #CLTSummit was an incredible international gathering of folks from across Turtle Island working towards a transformative vision of communities stewarding the land which sustains them. Thank you to the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations for their thousands of years stewarding the beautiful land on which we gathered. We were incredibly lucky to meet and learn from Indigenous leaders and matriarchs from the Downtown Eastside Community Land Trust, Xaxe Tenew Sacred Lands Society, Women of First Light, and Sogorea Te Land Trust. A special thank you to the growing cohort of Black-led community land trusts working towards cultural redress and daylighting the often invisiblised legacy of Black people in Canada: Hogan's Alley Society, Little Jamaica Community Land Trust, Upper Hammonds Plains Community Land Trust, Weymouth Falls CLT, DownTheMarsh CLT, New Roots Community Land Trust and other emerging African Nova Scotian community land trusts. Thank you to our other local CLTs who support the Summit: Community Land Trust and Cultural Land Trust. Thank you to our amazing slate of speakers - far too many to tag in the post. Thank you to the 312 Main team for the perfect venue, Showstream Technology Inc. for A/V, and HAVE Culinary Training Society for catering. Thank you to our major sponsors Tapestry Community Capital, Vancity Community Investment Bank, Vancity Community Foundation, Balanced Supply of Housing Node, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Société canadienne d'hypothèques et de logement(SCHL), and Community Housing Transformation Centre. When I say land, you say ?

Our team is proud to share that we have been selected to receive a grant from Jumpstart in support of the Hockey Heroes program! Our Hockey program is available at no cost to participating youth who face socioeconomic barriers. The program is free, equipment is provided at no cost, and transportation and food and beverages are also provided as many of the youth come from families facing food insecurity. Thank you to our partners Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities for making this possible! #SupportedByJumpstart https://lnkd.in/g3AHnQUV

Fantastic event yesterday hosted by the North Vancouver Chamber, providing attendees a chance to meet and speak directly with local candidates in the upcoming election. Our team especially appreciated the survey recently administered by the Chamber across local businesses, emphasizing the need to prioritize key issues such as affordable housing for staff, primary health care, and employment and educational supports. We're pleased to play a role in building a thriving local economy!
That's a wrap on a fantastic Meet the Candidates mixer for our local business community! It was inspiring to see our members and so many engaged professionals come together to connect with provincial election candidates and discuss the future of our community. The afternoon was filled with productive conversations, insightful questions, and a shared commitment to making our voices heard. 👏Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such a meaningful event. And a special thank you to our event Presenting Sponsor Greater Vancouver REALTORS (gvrealtors.ca).
