Offering services that challenge stigmas surrounding poverty and allow our members to maintain their dignity and choice.

About us

Hope House operates and advocates on the belief that poverty, food insecurity, inequality, health and community are all interconnected. We offer services and programs that challenge the stigmas surrounding poverty and allow our clients to maintain their dignity and choice, while simultaneously providing them with tactile skills developed in a community environment; it is not about a hand-out but rather offering people a hand-up, creating long-term skills that facilitate self-sufficiency. HOPE House provides front-line services and support in the form of a choice-based, points-based Food Market, HOPE Stylin’ Haircuts and Clothing Bureau (points-based), our community Edu-Kitchen, HOPE-in-Motion, a Back-to-School Backpack Program, a daily Café, Christmas hampers and more to any Guelph resident (including children) living in poverty. We have also formed close partnerships with community members to offer services beyond our mandate in partnership with like-minded groups. This includes the Run and Read Program (Start2Finish), the Cadence Program (Upper Grand District School Board), Five Star Relationship Counseling, The John Howard Society, AA, Celebrate Recovery and many more.

  • A heartfelt thank you to Alectra Inc. for supporting one of our markets for an entire year! The Guelph Seniors’ Community Food Markets bring a farmers’ market-style experience to eight subsidized housing locations across Guelph, running 96 markets annually. This initiative increases food access for 350 vulnerable seniors by providing fresh produce, pantry staples, hygiene items, and age-specific education and referrals. At Hope House, we believe poverty, food insecurity, inequality, and overall well-being are deeply connected. Through individualized services and programs, we work to break down barriers and challenge the stigmas associated with poverty. Website : www.alectra.com #HopeHouseGuelph #AlectraCARES

  • A huge thank you to Tim and Cara! Each year, Tim and Cara, along with their four kids, host the Donate to Skate event over the holidays to support a local organization. • Oranges are a terrific winter fruit. Oranges offer a great source of vitamin C and fibre. Fruit makes a good snack. Enjoying fruit between meals is a delicious eating moment. Eating regularly (having some food every 3 to 5 hours at least) can be really helpful in managing our blood sugar and our food cravings. The Seniors’ Community Food Markets at Hope House provide oranges at their winter markets. Access to oranges means they can be a regular part of our weekly food return. Oranges can be enjoyed on their own or added to other dishes. See the recipe below to use oranges in a new way. Both the juice and zest of an orange are part of a marinade. Try it out today to enjoy all that oranges have to offer. Recipe https://lnkd.in/gRtz7sKP

  • ONE MONTH AWAY! The anticipation is growing. How goes your fundraising? It’s time to change the tune – change the beat, change the station, change the story! Bring change into your community one small wintry step at a time. And laying those fresh tracks? Well, that’s what the Coldest Night of the Year is all about! This tune change would not be possible without our amazing sponsors! Thank you to our Lead Sponsor: Compass Private Wealth Inc. And our two Supporting Sponsors: Triumph Tool Ltd. and Power Plus Mobility Inc. Our Rest Stop Sponsor is Tricar. Let's change the tune! #HopeHouseGuelph
