My counselling focus is to support any individuals who are experiencing grief, loss and trauma. Also, the disability community and their caregivers, entrepreneurs and leaders & frontline healthcare professionals.
My journey to becoming a psychotherapist started as a young adult after many lived experiences of death of loved ones. In 2008, I founded Recreational Respite, a national organization that largely supports the disability community, those who face mental health struggles and others who experience grief and loss through difficult life situations. The goal of our work is to support individuals facing barriers to participation in their own lives and to help them develop meaningful connections with others, while reducing the isolation that often accompanies these experiences.
This has contributed to my deep understanding and compassion for navigating the emotions of loss, disenfranchised grief, diverse barriers, and complex relational challenges within families while creating a neuroaffirming practice. My approach in counselling emphasizes an individual’s strengths and my therapeutic interventions are integrative, using various approaches that are applicable to the individuals’ hopeful outcomes. These interventions include; attachment- informed grief therapy, existential therapy, mindfulness practice, humanistic approaches, solution focused and strengths-based therapies that are offered with compassion, are culturally sensitive and are socially just. I am also trauma informed in my counselling approach.
My education includes a B.A in Disability Studies with honours and distinction from the Toronto Metropolitan University, and a M.A in Counselling Psychology with Yorkville University. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and have the privilege to practice in Ontario, Canada.
