On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Institute for Performance and Learning reflects on the painful legacy of residential schools and the ongoing impacts of colonisation on Indigenous peoples, communities, and families of the First Nations, Inuit and the Métis Nation. This day reminds us of the importance of listening, learning, and taking responsibility for active participation in the ongoing work towards Reconciliation. As an organization dedicated to realising our purpose to elevate the performance of the Canadian workforce through our DICE (Diversity, Inclusion, Connections, and Equity) framework, we are committed to continuing to contribute to advancing Call to Action #92 in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) report by encouraging all Canadian workplaces who have yet “to adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as a reconciliation framework and to apply its principles, norms, and standards to corporate policy and core operational activities involving Indigenous peoples and their lands and resources” to reflect today on how they may integrate this Call to Action within their Equity, Diversity and Inclusion strategy. We encourage those looking to take a first step to learn more about the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation here: https://buff.ly/3hX67UO, or to learn more from the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR): https://nctr.ca As a place of learning and dialogue, the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation continues the work begun by Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
