In Canada, annual stroke occurrence rates have increased to 108,707 – or roughly one every five minutes, according to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Heart disease is the second leading cause of death in Canada after cancer. A recent study commissioned by Inagene Diagnostics Inc. revealed that 59% of Canadians are unaware that genetic factors can render popular heart attack and stroke medications ineffective. The study aims to uncover attitudes and increase awareness as Inagene prepares to launch Canada’s most comprehensive pharmacogenetic test focused on cardiovascular medications.(1) Three quarters of Canadians (76%) are worried about heart health or are paying more attention to it as they age – yet just 41% are aware that a genetic interaction might make a popular heart attack and stroke medication ineffective. More specifically, Boomers are not in the know about pharmacogenomics. Despite 86% of Canadians aged 65+ requiring daily medication to manage their health, only 21% of them knowing about this kind of testing and its availability.(1) The right heart medication could save your life. This simple test can help you find it. A new cardiovascular health innovation is coming soon. Be the first to know when this kit is available by signing up at the link in the comments. Sources 1. The numbers don’t lie. Canadians are increasingly worried about their heart health, but many are still unaware of the availability of genetic testing to guide their medication choices. According to our recent survey, 76% of Canadians are worried about their heart health, or paying more attention to it as they age. Their concerns are valid. Heart disease is the second leading cause of death in Canada after cancer and according to the Heart & Stroke Foundation annual stroke occurrence rates have increased to 108,707 – or roughly one every five minutes (1). Boomers are not in the know about pharmacogenetics. Despite 86% of Canadians aged 65+ requiring daily medication to manage their health, 8 out of 10 don’t know about this kind of testing and its availability (1). But you do. Research shows that 99.9% of people have genetic variants that affect their response to medications. Pharmacogenomics - the science of how your genes and medications interact - can help you find personalized treatments and the right heart medication that could save your life. With a simple cheek swab, you can optimize medications and dosing while avoiding side effects and safety risks (1). We are launching a new test to address these concerns and equip patients with personalized information about how their genetics respond to medications. Pharmacists have always been a critical cornerstone of our healthcare system, playing pivotal roles in medication management, patient education, and drug safety. In recent years, advances in pharmacogenetics (PGx)—the study of how genes affect an individual's response to medications—have transformed the way a growing number of pharmacists approach personalized medicine. With this growing field, pharmacists are uniquely positioned to provide more precise and effective patient care. In our recent #InageneInsights article, we explore how pharmacists use PGx to improve patient outcomes and how they're using it to shape the future of healthcare. "Pharmacists are already adept at assessing medication interactions and tailoring drug regimens based on patient needs. Adding PGx to their toolkit allows them to provide an even higher level of personalized care." - Dr. Ashwin Juneja, MBA, PharmD, Inagene's Clinical Affairs Lead and Pharmacist Learn more about How Pharmacists Use Pharmacogenetics (PGx) to Improve Patient Outcomes here: https://lnkd.in/gMsTAvbs #pharmacists #pharmacy #pharmacogenetics #pharmacogenetictesting #pgx #medicationmanagement #medications #patientsafety #personalizedmedicine #personalizedmedication #patientcare #patientoutcomes #healthcare

💊 Are you or your patients struggling with medications that don't seem to work or cause unexpected side effects? As a pharmacist, I've seen firsthand how frustrating it can be when medications don't deliver the desired outcomes—or worse, lead to adverse reactions. After experiencing this myself, I found a solution that changed everything: pharmacogenetic testing. 🧬 In my latest video (https://lnkd.in/g7iNV2qe) I share: ✅ 3 tips to avoid adverse drug reactions ✅ My personal journey navigating pain medication that didn't work for me after the birth of our first child. ✅ How pharmacogenetic testing can help personalize medication plans and reduce the risk of adverse drug reactions caused by our current trial and error approach to prescribing. Understanding a patient's genetic profile can be a game-changer in helping to find the right medication the first time. I know it has been for me. Watch the video, and let's work together to make medication management safer and more effective for everyone. #Pharmacogenetics #PGx #MedicationSafety #Pharmacy #GeneticTesting #inagenediagnostics #patientsafety #pharmacists

In healthcare, patient safety is paramount. Yet, despite advancements in medicine, adverse drug reactions (ADRs) continue to be a major concern, affecting patients globally. In Canada alone, there are an estimated 200,000 ADRs annually that result in hospital admissions and cause tens of thousands of deaths. These reactions underscore the need for safer, more personalized approaches to prescribing medications. One such approach is pharmacogenetics (PGx), a field that examines how an individual’s genetic makeup influences their response to medications. The Pharmacogenomics Journal found that patients who underwent pharmacogenetic testing experienced fewer ADRs and higher satisfaction with their treatment plans.
