The Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) recently held a vital community seminar in collaboration with the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC). The seminar focused on building fraud awareness - identifying the various types of fraud, and what can be done to safeguard against them. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Christine Allum from the Ontario Securities Commission for leading an incredibly informative session for our members and guests. Christine shared valuable insights into identifying and protecting ourselves against common scams, including phishing and identity theft. Her advice on recognizing warning signs—like unsolicited investment offers and requests for personal data—was invaluable. It was clear from the seminar that while some frauds remain the same, others take on more innovative approaches against which everyone needs to be alert. The Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce recently hosted the acting Consul-General of India in Toronto Mr. Kapidhwaja Pratap Singh. Mr. Singh met with ICCC President Chirag Shah for a one-on-one discussion on Canada-India trade and business ties. Both noted that the cultural and business ties between the two countries run deep. Topics discussed included education, trade, services, and investments. The Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce urges both Canada and India to restore diplomatic ties and to resolve all issues mutually. The ICCC continues to advocate for normal business relations between the two countries. The Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce attended the Canada Nigeria Business Investment Summit on October 10th. The event showcased the significant potential of the Canada-Nigeria economic partnership, which has evolved remarkably over the years. With trade reaching approximately CAD 1.6 billion in 2022, it’s clear that our relationship is thriving. Key highlights included discussions on Nigeria’s diverse economy and its young, dynamic workforce, presenting a wealth of opportunities for Canadian businesses. We explored collaboration in sectors like agriculture, energy, and technology—areas where both nations can leverage their strengths for mutual benefit. The summit emphasised the importance of building networks, facilitating trade missions, and encouraging investments. Together, we can unlock new avenues for growth and innovation that will benefit both Canada and Nigeria. The summit also included a speech from Mr. Prashant Srivastava, Corporate Secretary of the Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce. He highlighted the evolution of our economic partnership, emphasizing the impressive CAD 1.6 billion in trade between Nigeria and Canada in 2022. This robust figure reflects not only the exchange of goods and services but also our growing collaboration in key sectors like agriculture, energy, and technology. Nigeria, with its vibrant economy and over 200 million people, offers unique opportunities for Canadian businesses. As Africa’s largest economy, it boasts abundant natural resources and a young, dynamic workforce ready to drive innovation and growth. On the Canadian side, our strengths in advanced technology and sustainable practices position us well to contribute meaningfully. He mentioned how building strong networks and encouraging investments will be crucial as we move forward.
