Families currently stay at Inn from the Cold for an average of 79 days, compared to the typical average of around 30 days. Rising living costs and a shortage of larger housing units have made finding suitable housing more difficult. This scarcity makes it challenging for families to find affordable homes that fit their needs and budget. Looking to make a difference? The Inn offers many ways for you to lend a hand. Family homelessness is a critical and complex issue, with families and children being the fastest-growing population experiencing homelessness in Canada. In Calgary, the 2023 Point-in-Time (PiT) Count by the Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF) estimated approximately 3,000 individuals in families experiencing homelessness, representing 20% of the city’s total homeless population. The Canadian Observatory on Homelessness (COH) reports that children under 18 make up over 60% of those affected. Today is #InternationalDayofWorldsIndigenousPeoples! It's a day for us to come together in learning, reflection, and celebration of the rich and diverse Indigenous cultures, traditions, and contributions that shape our world. This year, the focus is on ‘Protecting the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary Isolation and Initial Contact.’ Let's take this opportunity to deepen our understanding, honour the resilience and heritage of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people across Canada, and advocate for their rights to self-determination and well-being. By acknowledging Indigenous Peoples' experiences and amplifying their voices, we contribute to a more inclusive and respectful world.
