A recent mill closures in Prince George forced 300 people to lose their jobs and unfortunately there's more to come. The cause - the infamous Mountain Pine Beetle that devastated 16 of the 55 million hectares ($57B cumulative losses) of BC's forests between 1999-2015. To keep up with a growing population and need for housing starts the Government increased the allowable cuts and approved clear cutting to areas at perceived risk of a beetle attack causing the lack of merchantable fibre today. New technology could avoid such an outcome as insects spread can be made endemic early on through 'green attack' detection and selective harvesting enabled by Forestry 4.0. https://lnkd.in/gJkTv6PV #mpb #mountainpinebeetle #forestinsects #forestry #forestryjobs #forestry4.0

Invasive species not only harm the ecosystem but also the economy. Its estimated that between $13 to $35 billion of cumulative revenue is lost annually in Canada because of 16 species alone. Its effects are mostly felt in the Agriculture and Forestry Industries. We're working hard to reduce this through developing early warning technology to stop the spread. #invasivespecies #forestry #agriculture #insects #beetle #invasiveplants https://lnkd.in/g4rkW5q3

Forest fires are set to become more frequent and intense. A recent study by the UN projected that extreme fires will be 14% worse by the end of the decade, just 6 years from now! We cannot afford to be unprepared any longer. We're building new technology that will play a vital role in preserving our forests. Your support will help in the fight to preserve our precious natural resources. https://lnkd.in/es_ZCsin
