November is Adoption and Permanency Awareness Month, a time to reflect on the true meaning of permanency. Permanency is the foundation of stability, love, and belonging that every child and youth deserves. Throughout the month we will celebrate the diverse ways families are formed while recognizing that the journey to permanency is complex and ever-evolving. This month is a reminder to listen to the voices of children and youth, understanding their unique needs, and ensuring they feel seen, heard, and supported every step of the way. Adoption and Permanency Awareness Month is an opportunity to renew our commitment to providing support families formed through adoption, kinship and customary care. We invite you to join us as we will be sharing events, blogs, and insights to deepen our collective understanding of what permanency can look like. At Interwoven Connections, we understand that the path to permanency can be challenging, but no family should have to face it alone.

Today, on Adoptee Remembrance Day, we reflect on the experiences of adoptees. This day shines a light on difficult realities that are often unspoken, including the tragic loss of adoptee lives. It’s a day to honour those who are no longer with us and to acknowledge the painful truths that some adoptees have faced, including adoptee suicide and mistreatment. We understand that today’s focus may be challenging for some. Adoption carries both love and complexity, and today is about holding space for those difficult conversations. It is about learning and listening—listening to adoptees, hearing their experiences, and standing by them. If you or someone you know is struggling, please know that support is available. Here are Ontario-based crisis resources for immediate help: - Distress and Crisis Ontario: Provides 24/7 phone and text support. Call 1-866-531-2600 or visit www.dcontario.org. - Kids Help Phone: Available 24/7 for young people, including adoptees. Call 1-800-668-6868 or text - CONNECT to 686868. - Ontario Mental Health Helpline: Confidential 24/7 support for those in crisis.
