About us

On September 20th, 2019, JFE Shoji Trade Corporation acquired 100% of the shares of Cogent Power Inc, from Tata Steel Europe. Grouped together, the Cogent and JFE Shoji Steel America business make it possible for JFE Shoji to capture greater market share in the electrical steel market for both transformer and automotive products. The combination of Cogent and JFE Shoji has become one of the largest processors of electrical steel transformers in the world. JFE Shoji currently has many other production and processing facilities throughout Asia, as well as a facility in Tijuana, Mexico. Globally, JFE Shoji enhanced the business’ competitiveness by sharing and integrating the technical skill with deep business experience, which can be strongly applied to the global and North American markets. With this investment, JFE Shoji has one of the world’s leading processing and distribution functions for core design and manufacturing for transformers. Based in Tokyo, JFE is one the world’s largest steel producers with over 45,000 employees and operations globally.

  • What do turning on the lights, starting a car engine, running a power transformer, and swiping a credit card all have in common? They all rely on electromagnetic induction! This groundbreaking discovery, made in 1831 by Michael Faraday, gave us the ability to convert motion into energy - an innovation that powers countless technologies we use every day. But how does it actually work? And why should you care? Because understanding this process means appreciating the heart of our energy system! If you’ve ever been curious about how the lights come on or how your devices charge, watch our video for a simple explanation that reveals the power behind, well, the power. 🔌💡🌍  #electricity #siliconsteel #physics #transformers

  • Happy #NationalManufacturingDay!   It’s a wide-ranging industry, and one we’re incredibly proud to be part of. Manufacturing is the reason that someone's invention assembled in their garage becomes the device you can’t put down. 📱👀   If your job involves taking raw components and creating products at scale, you’re part of this incredible industry, just like us! Together, our industry directly supports 1.79 million jobs and contributes 27% of Canada's total economic activity. 💪 Pretty amazing, right?   The fourth industrial revolution is here, and it's moving forward at record speed, driven by new technologies and advanced systems. We're seeing the creation of new careers we couldn’t have imagined just a decade ago, like bioengineering, robotics, and many more. With Ontario’s support through measures like the Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit, our future is looking bright! 💡   As we recognize all of the hard-working individuals in our industry today, we encourage you to share your own manufacturing journey with us. What inspired you to join this industry? How do you think manufacturing will evolve in the future? Let us know in the comments!   #4IR #Manufacturing #Industry40 #DigitalTransformation

  • Our hearts go out to our friends and communities still coming to terms with the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene. We’re holding close in our thoughts those who are facing unimaginable loss and hardship in the aftermath of this powerful storm. As of Thursday morning, nearly a million people are still without power, with entire sections of the power grid wiped away. The scale of the damage is staggering, with some areas in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina almost entirely in the dark. It’s a humbling reminder of how quickly life can change. Amid the chaos and destruction caused by Helene, we're witnessing the resilience of these communities as the restoration begins. At times like these, one of the first steps toward rebuilding is restoring electrical power. For decades, it has been our privilege to assist in restoring the electrical grid in areas ravaged by hurricanes, ice storms, tornadoes, and more. Our team stands ready, working tirelessly around the clock to support the recovery efforts wherever we are needed. To everyone affected by Helene: our thoughts, prayers, and unwavering support are with you as you begin to rebuild your lives. You’re not in this alone, and we’re here to help in any way we can.
