Founder @ Just Be Cause Consulting | Empowering Positive Impact | 🎙️ Host of the Just Be Cause Podcast

My mom still jokes about a picture of 3-year-old me reading a book upside down. I am a devout book nerd 🤓 and proud of it. When Amy Link Zaslansky approached me to speak at the National Book Access Association (NBAA)'s conference, I was thrilled! Storytelling is such a fitting topic for this conference as the reason why we read books is because of the stories they share. As nonprofits dedicated to distributing more books to low-income communities, how can they mobilize their own stories to increase their impact? Whose stories should they share? I will answer these and many other questions in my talk tomorrow! There is still time to join us online TOMORROW, find the link in the comments! #Books #BookNerd #Storytelling #Fundraising -- I'm Katherine Lacefield, a Nonprofit Consultant and Speaker who loves talking all things Fundraising and Communications. I am always looking to connect with new people!

  • How important are partnerships in nonprofits? 🌟I am excited to share some insights from the latest episode of The Just Be Cause Podcast with special guest Gretchen Villegas of Nexus Strategy and Growth Partners LLC. As we dive into the nuances of nonprofit partnerships and impact, here are three key takeaways from our conversation: 🔗 Collaboration Over Competition: Partnerships are essential in today's landscape. Bringing together for-profit, nonprofit, government, and community sectors can strategically fill gaps and enhance social impact. It's about leveraging each entity's strengths to create sustainable solutions. 🧩 Think Holistically: Nonprofits should approach social impact like a puzzle. It's not just about a single solution but understanding and addressing the interconnected needs of the community. The holistic approach leads to more meaningful and sustainable change. 📊 Beyond the Numbers: Impact isn't just the number of meals distributed or events hosted. It's about the systemic change and your work's real, long-term impact. Transitioning focus from quantity to quality can attract more support and drive true transformation. For nonprofits looking to expand their reach and amplify their impact, these strategies can serve as a guide to optimize resources and redefine success! 🎧✨ Check out the full episode to dive deeper into these insights, follow the link in the comments below 👇 How have YOU leveraged partnerships in your nonprofit? • This is one of our favorite things to see: our client’s success as they bring about positive impact in the world ❤️ KruShan Foundation and their amazing founders Shannon du Plessis and Kruger du Plessis are the biggest African Penguin fans we know 🐧 Their love and passion for these birds is palpable, and the work needed to save them is urgent. Late last year, the species was labeled as critically endangered: they are scheduled to disappear by 2035. Wednesday have less than ten years folks. Here at Just BeCause Philanthropy Consulting , we believe in your cause, and we will do everything in our power to support you in reaching your goals. Beyond the typical fundraising support such as campaign strategy and email copy, we helped KruShan Foundation by: - Supporting their branding redesign - Reaching out to our own community for donations - Creating a profile frame to bring attention to the cause - Advising on social media strategy - Spreading awareness through our own social platforms - Cheering them on every step of the way Congrats to a successful first online fundraising campaign, we did it! #AfricanPenguins #Fundraising #FundraisingConsultant #EndangeredSpecies — We are a Fundraising Consulting Agency that specializes in animal 🐕 and environmental causes 🌎. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you need support!

  • 💌Would you send that email to your friend? On the latest episode of the Just Be Cause Podcast, I had the great pleasure of chatting up Morgan Gross of Fundraising Beyond Borders to talk all things international fundraising. We tend to focus so much on who our "audience" is, that we forget that these are individuals opening our communications. Morgan brought up a great tip: would you feel comfortable sending your solicitation emails to a friend or family member? When we pause to think about this, it can help us better frame or write the email to feel more warm and friendly, building a stronger bond and connection with our donors. Tune in to the full episode for more tips on international fundraising! Link in the comments! #InternationalFundraising #Nonprofits #NonprofitPodcast #FundraisingBeyondBorders #NewPodcast

  • I still remember getting a 250$ donation as a receptionist at the Montreal SPCA. I was in my early 20s, and had no official fundraising experience or knowledge. I worked in nearly all departments of the shelter and found myself chatting with this woman bringing in two semi-feral kittens. She knew her stuff, we chatted #TNR and long-term solutions to cat overpopulation and how she was glad she caught the kittens early on. 😻She definitely cared. So, I looked down at the intake form and saw the "donation" section. Why not? I asked if she would like to donate towards these two kitten' futures. She donated 250$. Just like that. Now, imagine if every staff was trained to be attentive to these instances. If they took each opportunity to build relationships with people they cross paths with. It's time to shift perspectives and realize that #fundraising is not just the responsibility of a single department but a collaborative effort involving everyone in an organization, even in a shelter! I am so excited to be speaking at the New England Federation of Humane Societies Annual Training Conference of 2025 to demystify the world of fundraising for animals!

  • For anyone with questions around the Canadian tax deadline extension ⬇️

*TAX RECEIPT EXTENSION NOT COMPROMISED BY PROROGATION* We have received questions regarding the timing of the legislation for the tax receipt extension. The prorogation won't affect the deadline or the spirit of the announcement made by the government to extend the deadline. The intent to introduce legislation is what allows CRA to count the receipts accordingly. Organizations and donors need not be worried by the fact that the legislation will be passed after the tax receipt extension. The eventual legislation was intended to be applied retroactively, and the prorogation doesn't change that. In fact, in 1997 when the federal government announced a similar measure for that year's postal strike, the bill that eventually implemented the month-long extension into January 31, 1998, wasn't passed until 1999. We are working with the Department of Finance on a FAQ for charities which we will share as soon as possible.

  • Natural disasters are scary for everyone, including our pets. Unfortunately, it times of emergencies, our non-human loved ones can lead to even more confusion: - Can I bring my pet to the shelter? - How do I bring them with me? - What should I bring for my pet? - Where can I bring my pet if I can't bring them with me? While some of these are very tough decisions, we need to create a system and structure that takes ALL family members into consideration. When I attended Humane Canada 's conference last May, I listened to two amazing women share stories of how #AnimalNonprofits were crucial to dealing with natural disasters like floods and forest fires. If you want to tune in to the podcast I recorded which touches on this important topic: https://vist.ly/3mrzr5g For anyone dealing with or know someone who is dealing with the California wildfires, there are resources out there to give you resources to keep your entire family safe: https://vist.ly/3mrzr5j #NaturalDisaster #ForestFires #CalFires #PetSafety #PetsareFamily

Let's talk real impact – not just my journey, but OURS. Podcast Insights That Kept It Real 🎙️ When I started the Just Be Cause Podcast, I didn't just want another interview series. I wanted a revolution of storytelling. Some highlights that made nonprofit hearts everywhere go "YES": • Mutual Rescue episode with Carol Novello: Proving animal welfare isn't just about rescue, it's about human connection • Storytelling magic with Nathan Young: How our narratives transform missions from transactions to movements • Nonprofit leadership insights with Stephanie Jacobs: Reimagining financial sustainability beyond traditional funding Unexpected Teacher Moments 🍎 Having a webinar attendee write to me MONTHS after attending to share how my Storytelling webinar changed her entire approach to fundraising. THIS is why I do free webinars folks. A Year in Fur and Fundraising 🐾 Mr. Pickles (my unexpected foster pup) and Chaiko (my new furry co-pilot) reminded me that every nonprofit journey is about connection. Sometimes that looks like strategic planning, sometimes it looks like a wet dog kiss.
