Clarence, a dedicated Guardteck Events security guard, has a powerful story rooted in resilience and community. He was involved in raising the Survivors Totem Pole (pictured) in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, a symbol of healing and survival. Clarence also worked with renowned carver Beau Dick, assisting in the presentation of traditional shields to various First Nations communities. Through cultural exchanges and music, he has built connections with the Squamish, Musqueam, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.⁠ ⁠ Clarence’s story is deeply personal. His parents, residential school survivors, struggled with addiction, and he spent 11 years in foster care. After his mother's passing, his father became sober, and Clarence, determined to break the cycle, has remained sober as well. He stays connected to his Haida and Kwakwaka’wakw heritage through regular visits to Haida Gwaii and the North end of Vancouver Island, where he feels a strong sense of belonging and peace. His brother, who also embraced sobriety, dedicated himself to supporting families in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside before passing away from cancer.⁠ ⁠ A passionate metalhead, Clarence enjoys working at concerts and festivals like Bass Coast, Shambhala, The Commodore Ballroom and many more. Traumatic events are hard for security teams. It’s important to take care of everyone’s mental health. This squad was subject to an horrific event, handled it like professionals and saved lives. You won’t read in the newspaper what they did to save a number of people’s lives that were at risk. But I’m here to tell you, when you have a great security team, they can accomplish amazing things together. I’ve always been an advocate of mental health. Ensuring my team got the proper care and time off after such an event was the most important thing. This photo of us at dinner is only the tip of the iceberg for what we will continue to do for our staff, ALWAYS!
