🙋🏼♀️Nonprofit leaders: Are you just checking boxes or truly supporting your team in supervision? Most of us enter leadership knowing *what* to do but not fully understanding *how* to do it. This is because we were not taught these skills. We hold one-to-one meetings, but are they delivering what our teams actually need? 👉🏻 Here’s what really matters: Research shows that employees want to feel heard and supported in these meetings. When they do, it’s like lifting a weight off their shoulders, creating a safe space to share their challenges, release stress, and let go of the pressures from clients. ❌ Effective supervision isn’t about the checklist. ✅ It’s about fostering a supportive environment that reduces stress and lowers burnout risk. If your employees feel supported, heard, and safe to grow—you’re doing supervision right.⭐️ 👋 Hi, I’m Kathy Archer! ➡️ Nonprofit leader, here's the truth...You are too nice! The real reason you struggle to hold people accountable on your nonprofit team is that you're being too nice 🫣 AKA 👉🏻You might be a people pleaser! 👉🏻You might want to take care of everyone. In the nonprofit world, we care deeply—we're here because we're compassionate. But sometimes, that compassion gets in the way of making decisions, setting boundaries, or communicating deadlines. Here's what you need to do instead: 📝 Write down what you need to communicate I mean, write down EXACTLY what needs to be communicated. What is the expectation? Who should be involved or not involved How should it be completed? When is it due? When you write it down, it becomes clear to you—and only then can you communicate it clearly to someone else. Without clarity, accountability slips through the cracks. 👋 Hi, I'm Kathy Archer! 🙋🏼♀️ Nonprofit Leaders: This is your reminder to pause and (see notes below) before you go into your staff meeting The number one question you need to ask yourself before heading into a meeting with your nonprofit staff ... ❌ Is NOT “What do I need to do?” ✅ IS “Who do I need to be?” We spend waaaaaay to much time worrying about agenda items, but the real focus should be on how we show up. 💭 What character traits will I bring? 💪 What strengths will I use? ✨ How will I show up as the kind of leader who creates the impact I want in this meeting? It’s not just about what’s on the agenda—it’s about who you are when you lead. 👋 Hi, I’m Kathy Archer! 🤫 Nonprofit leaders..I’m gonna let you in on a little secret... If you haven’t asked yourself, “What’s the point of this being on the agenda?” then it doesn’t belong there. Pre-planning your agenda is essential for productive nonprofit meetings. For every agenda item, ask yourself: 1️⃣ What’s the point of this item? 2️⃣ Does it belong on the agenda? 3️⃣ Does it need to be discussed or just shared as an update? If you can’t answer these questions, it’s time to rethink the item. 👋 Hi, I’m Kathy Archer! ⚠️ This may be controversial for nonprofit leaders, but... You don't need a standard agenda for your team meetings. Instead, thoughtful planning is key. Before adding items to your agenda, ask yourself these three essential questions: 1️⃣ Does everyone need to know and discuss this? 2️⃣ Can this be done as an email update? 3️⃣ Do we have enough time for this? Covering worthwhile topics at team meetings leads to stronger teams, clearer communication, and better results. Create your agenda wisely—because your team’s time (and yours) is too valuable to waste. 👋 Hi, I’m Kathy Archer! 🚫 Nonprofit leaders, Don't make this mistake 👉🏻 If the agenda item could've been sent in an email, it has NO place on the agenda. Time is precious, and you are insanely busy 😳 And looooong dragged out meetings ⌛️ drain your energy and tick your team off. Your team doesn't need you to waste their time AND you don't need to waste yours. 💡 Before adding it to the agenda, ask yourself: - Does this require input from multiple people? - Is a conversation essential, or will an email suffice? - Will this discussion move our mission forward? 👋 Hi, I'm Kathy Archer! I help overwhelmed nonprofit leaders build confidence and create balance in their roles without compromising their personal lives or values. 👉 Follow me for more tips to help you lead efficiently and reclaim time for what truly matters. #nonprofitleadership #leadwithintention #effectiveleadership #worksmarter #nonprofit

👀 Nonprofit women leaders, ever feel like you’re the least qualified person in the room? I have been there more times than I care to remember. It seemed like everyone looked polished—suits, confidence, clear ideas—and there I was, feeling what I can only describe as frumpy, dumpy, and grumpy. I couldn’t find the right words to express my thoughts. It felt like everyone else had gone through some secret training, and I had missed the memo. The more I sat there, the smaller I felt. I kept worrying someone would figure out I didn’t belong—that I wasn’t supposed to be there. At the time, I didn’t have a word for it, but looking back, I know it was 🫣 IMPOSTER SYNDROME 🫣 But here’s the thing: perseverance is one of my strengths, and I didn’t give up. I kept showing up, even when it felt hard. And Iearned how to lead confidently. And you can too!! 👋 Hi, I’m Kathy Archer, a leadership development coach.
