Have you used or thought about devices to support medication adherence? If your GlowCap alerts you to take your pills and you are in a different part of the house, you won't respond to it. Teaching about medication adherence devices in my Digital Health course, I noted that most devices use auditory and/or visual alerts, which require proximity to be able to be able to hear and/or see them. Yet there were no studies documenting where people store their medication in their home. Many homes have a medicine cabinet, which, despite the name, is not what everyone uses for medication storage, so we created a survey to learn where people store their medication and which locations are associated with adherence. If you want a hint of what we learned, nightstands were the most commonly used storage location and 96% of respondents were receptive to guidance on medication storage from their healthcare provider.
