The Steel Insider — Trump win ends US steel sector’s election uncertainty United States steel market participants hope that a renewed “America First” economic approach will drive increased demand following the re-election of Donald Trump. Tariffs expected from ‘America First’ approach In his last term in office, President Trump introduced 25% Section 232 tariffs on steel imports into the US. Further trade protection is expected in his second term as part of efforts to boost domestic manufacturing. A 10% tax on all imported goods has been suggested during campaigning, along with tariffs of up to 200% on imported vehicles. President Biden had already introduced a 100% tax on Chinese electric vehicles (EV). Line marking on metal sheets is a fundamental aspect of sheet metal handling and trading operations, offering a reliable means of labeling and identification. From ensuring traceability to facilitating regulatory compliance, line marking plays a crucial role in maintaining quality standards and ensuring product integrity. Several techniques are commonly employed for line marking on metal sheets, a few of which are: 1) Inkjet Printing Inkjet printing utilizes specialized inks to print directly onto metal sheets. This non-contact method allows for high-speed printing of alphanumeric characters, barcodes, and QR codes. Inkjet printing offers versatility and cost-effectiveness, particularly for variable data applications. 2) Laser Engraving Utilizing high-intensity laser beams, laser engraving creates precise and permanent markings on metal surfaces. This technique offers excellent durability and resolution, making it ideal for intricate designs, serial numbers, and logos. 3) Embossing Embossing involves creating raised or recessed patterns on metal surfaces through mechanical pressure. While not as common as laser engraving or inkjet printing, embossing is suitable for applications where tactile identification is required, such as product branding or decorative elements. #DidYouKnow #StainlessSteel #QualityControl #Traceability #MetalMarking #LineMarking #ProductIdentification #MetalSheets #MetalCoils

The latest on The Steel Insider Canada announces tariff remission process for Canadian businesses importing certain Chinese goods Canadian workers, the auto sector, the steel and aluminum industries, and related critical manufacturing supply chains are threatened by unfair competition from Chinese producers, who benefit from China’s intentional, state-directed policy of overcapacity and oversupply, as well as its lack of rigorous labour and environmental standards. The federal government has recently implemented a suite of tariffs (also known as surtaxes) on certain Chinese imports to level the playing field and protect Canada’s workers and businesses from China’s unfair trade policies. These include: - A 100 per cent surtax on all Chinese-made EVs, effective October 1, 2024; - A 25 per cent surtax on imports of steel and aluminum products from China, effective October 22, 2024; and, - Potential surtaxes on critical manufacturing sector products, particularly batteries and battery parts, semiconductors, solar panels, and critical minerals, which the government consulted on from September 10, 2024, to October 10, 2024.
