As we approach the 50th anniversary of International Women’s Day, I reflect on the progress we've made and the work that still lies ahead to ensure women's full participation in all sectors. In Canada, women own only 17% of small and medium-sized businesses (Government of Canada). Furthermore, women represent less than 30% of those employed in professional STEM fields, while men dominate with over 70% (Statistics Canada). These statistics highlight the underrepresentation of women in critical areas that shape our future and underscore the importance of advancing diversity in the workforce. Greater diversity in STEM offers countless benefits: addressing skills shortages, driving innovation, and maximizing human resources investments. The need for change is clear, and the potential for growth and innovation is immense. In the field of innovation, there is compelling evidence that women invent to better address the needs of women. We have a unique perspective, which is critical in shaping solutions that cater to everyone’s needs. On this day, I am filled with deep gratitude for the incredible women and allies who have supported my work throughout my career—especially the groundbreaking work we’re doing with The DOvEEgene Project and WISE Genomics. This initiative, which focuses on the early detection of endometrial and ovarian cancers, would not be possible without the collaboration, determination, and support of so many. Together, we are challenging the limits of what’s possible in women’s health. Let’s celebrate how far we’ve come and inspire the next generation of women to continue breaking barriers. The future is brighter when we work together to create a world that values the contributions of women in every field. #IWD2025 #WomenInScience #WomenSupportingWomen #Innovation #WISEgenomics #DOvEEgene #CancerResearch #McGillUniversity #Healthcare #WomensHealth #GenderEquality
