  • As we prepare for National Grief and Bereavement Day next month, we're thinking about how we can normalize grief as part of life. Grief is normal. Grief is personal. Grief is the healthy way we adapt to loss. As a society, we tend to shy away from talking about grief. It makes many of us uncomfortable. National Grief and Bereavement Day inspires us to confront our discomfort and learn how we can talk about our own grief and support others in their grief. • Just One Touch Just one spark, can start the forest burning. One rock removed, begins the avalanche. a single touch can prompt a stampede of emotions, the strength of which could make any iron man shiver and shake and beg for mercy. But don't be afraid. unlike the fire and the avalanche, one the stampede of emotion has past, genuine calm can prevail. Betty Perry RN, PhD Perry, B. (2009). • In the most challenging moments, compassion makes all the difference. For Kath, her aunt Frankie was more than family—she was a pillar of love and support, even as her health declined. Through their shared journey, Frankie showed Kath what it means to care for someone with grace and tenderness. Their story is a reminder that compassion is the heart of any community, and it can leave an impact that lasts far beyond goodbye. Ahead of World Compassionate Communities Day (Nov 1), we encourage you to take a deep dive into their story here: https://lnkd.in/gwWA6UDA

  • Tonight, I came across a heartfelt post on Facebook from a wonderful young friend of mine. She reflected on her skin and body, expressing gratitude for how well her body has served her. She shared her journey of learning to care for, appreciate, and love her body and skin. I can relate deeply to this sentiment. I am incredibly thankful for my body—it has carried me through life, supported me during pregnancies, and taken me on countless hikes and adventures. I am equally grateful for my skin. Sometimes my grandkids touch my skin, and we take a moment to explore the wrinkles on my arms and the loose skin on my neck. I cherish these moments, pointing out how soft my skin is and how interesting the veins look on the backs of my hands. We discuss how skin changes with age, celebrating the "laugh lines" that come with a life well-lived. I hope they will appreciate my skin as much as I cherished my great-grandmother's skin when she was nearly 100 years old. I want them to embrace the wrinkles and look forward to seeing their own as they grow older. Our upcoming webinar focuses on skincare—not about programs to make someone "look younger," but on how to nurture and protect the skin for those who can no longer care for it themselves. We are immensely grateful to NSWOCC for sponsoring this webinar, which highlights the expertise of nurses specializing in skin and wound care! #skincare #psw #nurse #webinar #continuingeducation #NSWOCC
