In our most recent podcast with Chantal McNeily, Investment and Wealth Advisor at RBC Dominion Securities, we discuss the unique challenges women face when it comes to managing our finances and achieving financial security. It is no secret that women face a number of factors that make it harder to get there: we still earn less (87 cents on the dollar compared to men), take more time off to care for family, and live longer. What I did not appreciate though, is this important trend: privately held wealth for Canadian women has been growing rapidly and is moving towards representing approximately 50% of total wealth in Canada.    Another important stat Chantal highlighted is that 80% of women leave their husband’s advisor within one year of his passing. Financial advisors and wealth management firms need to be asking themselves how they are adapting their service models and approach to investing to ensure it is resonating with women! In our most recent podcast we bring to you a conversation on ESG investing within a public markets context with Leslie Nicholson, Chief Product Officer at BITA. BITA is an index provider that is making indexing more accessible to a wider audience. Much debate is going on in the industry as to whether ESG investing results in superior risk-adjusted returns. And given the variety of approaches to ESG investing and some of the challenges in measuring the data, it is a difficult question to answer. According to Leslie, public markets data shows that there are no immediate short-term gains, but longer term there is data to support that a focus on sustainability or climate focus does result in higher returns. In our most recent podcast, we bring to you an insightful conversation on ESG investing within a public markets context with Leslie Nicholson Chief Product Officer of BITA. BITA is an index provider that is making indexing more accessible to a wider audience.    Globally, ESG assets are on track to exceed US$53 trillion dollars by 2025, more than a third of the US$140 trillion in projected total assets under management. To say that asset managers cannot afford to ignore ESG is an understatement.    Leslie explains how technology is reshaping the landscape by offering innovative indexing and rule-based solutions that create scalability and remove subjectivity from the process. This is enabling the use of very sophisticated and tailored portfolios well beyond the formation of ETFs. For example, custom portfolios can be created for individual investors based on their specific preferences and criteria. This offers the prospect of real differentiation in the marketplace for wealth and asset managers that offer these solutions to their clients.    On top of introducing rules into portfolios relating to ESG, direct indexing adds another layer that can bring additional benefits to investors.
