Today is a big day for LoopX! We were honored to host the Premier of Ontario, Hon. Doug Ford; Ontario Minister of Mines, Hon. George Pirie; and Sudbury Mayor, Paul Lefebvre, at our Sudbury office at NORCAT. I had the opportunity to share the LoopX story with Premier Ford and highlight the essential support we’ve received from the Ontario government, including signicant funding from Ontario Centre of Innovation, Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN), and Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON). I showcased our innovative work, developed in collaboration with Cementation Americas, aimed at making mining safer and more efficient through robotics and AI, and highlighted the five patents we’ve filed over the past year. The Premier’s words—'I like it; let me know if you need any help'—were truly inspiring for our team. LoopX takes leap forward with Cementation collaboration Leading mining contractor & mining services company Cementation Americas & #miningautonomy focused start-up LoopX recently announced that they are joining forces to significantly enhance dynamic safety at mining project sites. LoopX is a technology company focused on advancing mining safety and efficiency through #interoperable #autonomy, which has developed a pioneering #collisionawareness system. This system leverages a blend of #intelligentsensors and data points derived from generative #artificialintelligence which the company believes is a game-changer in the field. It excels at identifying safety hazards and operational inefficiencies before they happen. The companies are jointly trialing this comprehensive safety solution through rigorous testing at various Canadian project sites. Cementation says the testing regime will include a suite of user-driven units, integration, automation, functional, visual, performance, compatibility, accessibility, software & programmatic tests to enhance & refine product development and usability. LoopX’s use of a combination of camera and LiDAR technology as the system’s backbone means that it can be universally applied to any piece of equipment, regardless of size, scope, make, or model. Cementation says this versatility ensures that the solution can meet the unique safety needs of any mining operation and is particularly appealing, given that its teams work on diverse project sites and challenging conditions around the globe. Patrick Hudd, Cementation Canada Corporate Manager – International & Marketing told International Mining: “We are currently testing the #LoopX technology on multiple equipment units including several haul trucks, scoops & a personnel carrier. This includes a Caterpillar R1600 scoop that recently made its way to a project site. We are also using the system on other equipment at a different development project as we expand its use.” To coincide with this development, IM Editorial Director Paul Moore spoke to LoopX Founder and CEO, Chao Yu, PhD. Yu commented: “We use a variety of #proximity and #detection sensors just as other players do – but we are adding our AI model to process the data. With our sensors we combine infra-red cameras with highly reliable solid stage #LiDAR and accurate IMU sensors. Our system allows to the driver to hear & see what is happening but also understand what is happening. So I would say the level of the #systemintelligence is a big differentiator for us.” Yu says LoopX developed the #AI model in-house, using state of the art machine learning & computer vision algorithms. Most of the LoopX team formerly worked in the automotive autonomy sector so have brought a lot of experience from an industry that is much further ahead. The LoopX team had a successful showcase with our partner Symboticware at theNORCAT Mining Transformed exhibition. Over the last two days, we conducted more than 30 test rides on a Rokion EV for many top-tier mining operators, demonstrating our AI-powered Collision Avoidance System. Our system features advanced capabilities such as Obstacle Detection and Positioning for people, vehicles, and infrastructure; Vehicle Speed Odometry; Pose Estimation including incline and tilt; Voice-based Collision Warning; and Automatic Driving Data Recording. Here's a video clip capturing some highlights from our demonstration. For mining operators, contractors, and OEMs who are still using backup camera systems and tag-based collision avoidance systems (including RFID, UWB, EM, etc.), it's time for a significant upgrade. 🚀 Big News for Underground Navigation! 🚀 Getting around in underground mines has always been tough for equipment operators and site managers. Traditional GPS systems falter under the earth, and existing technologies like RFID and Wi-Fi/UWB-based positioning, though helpful, come with their own set of limitations—chief among them, the extensive infrastructure required, making deployment and maintenance a daunting task. I am excited to introduce our solution at LoopX: LiDAR-based Underground Vehicle Positioning and Navigation. This solution allows equipment operators to navigate safely and easily, no extra network or tags needed. If any network is available (Wi-Fi/LTE/5G), fleet managers can track every piece of equipment from afar, perfect for mines using integrated remote operation centers (IROC). 🎥 Check out this video from our NORCAT test. During the test, we achieved amazing positioning accuracy, thanks to our advanced SLAM algorithm. The elegance of our solution lies in its simplicity: this feature is software that leverages the existing hardware of our AI-powered Collision Avoidance System, eliminating the need for any additional hardware. We are paving the way for mining equipment operation that mirrors the functionality of #tesla #autopilot. We will showcase a live demo at the Mining Transformed event at NORCAT in May, demonstrating our commitment to making underground work safer and smarter.

Last week, I had an enriching experience as a Canadian delegate in the trade mission to #johannesburg, South Africa, organized by MICA | Mining Innovation Commercialization Accelerator and supported by Lepharo Incubation Programme NPC. Among my objectives during this trip was to delve into the collision avoidance system market in South Africa, given its unique status as the only country to mandate Collision Prevention Systems since December 2022. I had the privilege of presenting our innovation at LoopX to a distinguished audience comprising entrepreneurs and domain experts, including: Paul Collins, CIO at Tharisa Lehlohonolo A Molloyi, CEO at MEMSA Peter Erasmus, CEO at Directech Group Mike Jackson, CEO at Ramjack Technology Solutions Daniël Claassen, Managing Director at Redpro Global Ltd Prof. Stephan Heyns and Dr. Herman Hamersma at the University of Pretoria Moreover, I had the pleasure of establishing meaningful connections with my fellow delegates such as Robert Emond, Global Affairs Canada Mining Trade Commissioner, and Shervin Azad, P.Geo, Director of ALS GoldSpot Discoveries Ltd. I extend my sincere appreciation to Chamirai C. Nyabeze, Alain Thivierge, and Sello Paul Malinga from MICA, as well as Zenzo Nkomo and Mark Taylor from Lepharo, for their exceptional organizational efforts.
