We teamed up with (RED) to discuss the connection between iron deficiency and HIV. Iron is a critical nutrient that helps your blood move oxygen from your lungs to the rest of the body, but iron deficiency anemia, the most common blood disorder for those living with HIV/AIDS, can worsen disease progression and increase mortality risks. Managing iron levels is especially important for people living with HIV due to immune system compromise, increased risk of coinfections, inflammation, and medication effects that can impact iron absorption. #GlobalHealth #IronDeficiency #HIVAwareness #HealthEquity #NutritionMatters
Iron deficiency affects 1 in 3 people both in the US and globally. Today, we’re shedding light on a lesser-discussed issue: the connection between iron deficiency and HIV. We’ve partnered with Lucky Iron Life, a social enterprise that has been on a mission to make iron deficiency a thing of the past through their clinically-proven yet simple innovations. 🌍 Towards Zero Hunger: A Pivotal Moment to Address Hunger and Food Insecurity 🍽️ This World Food Day, we’re at a critical juncture. Hunger and food insecurity are escalating, driven by climate change and global inequalities. To combat the crisis, it’s not enough to solely invest in food security—we need a more holistic approach that ensures diverse, nutritious food is available in our fields, markets, and on our tables. It’s not just about producing enough food, but about ensuring a diverse range of nutritious options to prevent malnutrition, including stunting, wasting, and micronutrient deficiencies. 🚨 The reality is stark: more than 2.8 billion people worldwide cannot afford a nutritious diet. This number is growing in low- and middle-income countries, and the impacts of food and nutrition insecurity are disproportionately felt by women and girls, who are twice as likely to experience malnutrition. To achieve ZeroHunger, we must: 🔹 Improve food access: Support local food systems and initiatives that increase the availability of nutritious foods, especially for structurally marginalized groups. 🔹 Raise awareness: Promote nutrition education and understanding of balanced diets. 🔹 Advocate for policy change: Push for policies that ensure food and nutrition security, improved wages, and robust food assistance programs. 🔹 Foster collaboration: Build partnerships between governments, NGOs, and the private sector to create comprehensive strategies for nutrition security. 🔹 Ensure sustainability: Promote sustainable agricultural practices for long-term food availability. 🔹 Drive research: Support research and data collection to better address community nutrition needs. Let's commit to building a future where everyone has access to nutritious food. On the International Day of the Girl, we should recognize that girls' rights violations - from child marriage to barriers to girls' education - have far-reaching consequences for their nutrition and well-being. Girls married young are more likely to become pregnant as adolescents, rendering them more vulnerable to anemia and other malnutrition-related conditions. And girls who are pulled out of school lack access to critical nutritional interventions like school meals. The 2024 theme, 'Girls' vision for the future', conveys both the need for urgent action and persistent hope, driven by the power of girls' voices. #NourishEquality outlines strategic investment opportunities to deliver proven nutrition interventions to women and girls, unlocking their full capabilities. bit.ly/Nourish-Equality

Massive shoutout to Anne Pringle who was a panelist at the conference held by UN Global Compact Network Canada and Toronto International Film Festival this week. This esteemed panel shed some much needed light on understanding the intersectionality of the emerging issues we are facing as a society and as the business community. In this short clip, we learn just how integral SMEs are to the Canadian economy. Many of the challenges we face as small businesses are often not unique, and we have more power than we think to enact necessary changes. #CanadaCorporateCompass #un #sdg #esg #sustainablebusiness #sme

🌍 We are so encouraged to see the growing recognition of the importance of investing in nutrition security alongside food security, particularly when addressing micronutrient deficiencies like iron deficiency. Nutrition is a basic human right, it is the foundation of good health, and it's essential for the well-being and development of communities around the world. 🍽️ In the lead-up to the Nutrition for Growth Summit in March 2025, it's critical that governments and funding agencies take action and allocate sufficient funds to combat global malnutrition. Micronutrient deficiencies, especially iron deficiency, continue to impact billions, and addressing these gaps is vital to improving health outcomes globally. USAID recently announced that the U.S. government has pledged $12 billion to fight global malnutrition, surpassing its previous commitment. The landmark Global Malnutrition Prevention and Treatment Act is another step forward, highlighting the power of integrating nutrition into primary health care systems to ensure those most in need receive life-saving interventions. We know how impactful and transformative this kind of funding and legislation can be. The The World Bank highlights that for every dollar invested in addressing undernutrition, a return of $23 is expected—a powerful reminder of the value of these investments. Stronger Foundations for Nutrition emphasizes the critical connection between nutrition, gender equality and climate change, underscoring the need for coordinated, holistic and efficient global donor efforts. As we look ahead to the Nutrition for Growth Summit in March 2025, it’s vital that we build on the progress made at past summits. By highlighting the importance of nutrition security and working collaboratively, we can make real strides in addressing hidden hunger and improving nutrition globally, making sure that no community or individual is left behind. #Nutrition4Growth #N4G #NutritionSecurity #UNGA #GlobalHealth #NutritionInvestment

We are proud to partner with Help A Girl Out NP Canada and their Menstrual Equity Program in Honduras, where they distributed 300 Lucky Iron Fish alongside menstrual hygiene kits. This initiative not only tackles the challenge of menstrual health equity but also iron deficiency that disproportionately affects those who menstruate. Iron deficiency is one of the leading causes of anemia, and menstruation plays a significant role in this health issue for girls, women and anyone who menstruates around the world. For many, access to essential iron intake and proper menstrual hygiene products is a barrier to leading a healthy and empowered life. Periods should not be a source of shame, discomfort, or health issues. #MenstrualEquity #IronDeficiency #HiddenHunger #HealthForAll #SocialImpact #Honduras #GlobalHealth #Periods
HAGO supports countries outside of Canada with menstrual equity initiatives. Thanks to international partnerships with great organizations like Lucky Iron Life and Food For the Poor Canada!
