The healthcare system is meant to be a place where needs are met, however for some of our citizens, these settings can feel unsafe. Culturally unsafe care contributes to the dehumanization of patients. Achieving culturally safe care requires healthcare providers to listen without judgement and facilitate access to traditional and culturally specific supports. This is essential in creating a healthcare system where everyone feels safe. Learn more as Métis Nation Saskatchewan teams up with Healthcare Excellence Canada to address these issues and more during Canadian Patient Safety Week (Oct. 28 – Nov. 1). https://lnkd.in/dE6JNFyT

This week we spent time in Ottawa meeting with members of Parliament from across parties and with senators. Our focus was on continuing to build off of our successes in self-government, programs and services and deepening relationships and mutual understanding. In discussions on advancing Kishchi Mashinaayikun Ooshchi Michif - the Sacred Document from the Michif, we were able to have good conversations about continuing to ensure that we can support our citizens, their families and communities our way grounded in our identity, culture, values, and language. We are thankful to those who met with us for their time and we will continue to advocate for a strong, stable and self-determining Metis government that can help our citizens grow, prosper and achieve.
