The small mining town of Spruce Pine contains the world’s purest quartz — a critical ingredient in the chipmaking process. If the two mines sustained damage this time around, the impact could be even greater, given the world’s increased reliance on chips to make phones, processors, solar panels, and other technology. https://lnkd.in/entkF9Wb

Did you know? In June 2021, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was established as a statutory holiday to commemorate the tragic legacy of residential schools in Canada. Prior to this, Canadians recognized September 30 as Orange Shirt Day, a movement started by Phyllis Webstad, a residential school survivor. The day is in remembrance of a shirt that was taken from her on her first day at a residential school in 1973. Below is an open letter from Glenn Nolan, former President of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) and the organization's first Indigenous President. As a current member of the Indigenous Affairs Committee, he reflects on the significance of this day and the ongoing journey of truth and reconciliation. https://lnkd.in/gGq88fya #TruthandReconciliationDay #MPDA
