Congratulations to Steelcon for receiving an Honourable Mention at the 2024 CLF Ontario Embodied Carbon Awards in the Innovation in Industry category! 🏆 We’re thrilled that Steelcon Group of Companies was awarded an Honourable Mention for their low-carbon SIN Beam product at this year’s CLF Toronto | Carbon Leadership Forum Ontario Embodied Carbon Awards. Mantle supported this achievement by developing the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) of the product which led to finding a cost-effective route to halving the carbon of the product! The SIN Beam, with its unique design and significantly reduced carbon footprint, sets a new standard in sustainable construction. Congratulations to the entire Steelcon team on this well-deserved recognition! #CLFOntario #EmbodiedCarbon #Sustainability #LowCarbonConstruction #Steelcon #SINBeam #GreenBuilding #MantleDevelopments #Innovation

🌍 Advancing Low-Carbon Construction: A Call for Stronger Commitments in Canada 🌍 The White House recently announced its efforts to advance cleaner construction materials and reduce emissions through the Federal Buy Clean Initiative and the Inflation Reduction Act. Public and private sectors in the U.S. are committing to lower-carbon materials, with tech firms even scaling up low-carbon solutions for data centers to cut emissions by up to 50%. Here in Canada, we’ve made strides as well, with initiatives like requiring low-carbon concrete on federal projects. But there’s an urgent need to accelerate these efforts. Supporting industrial decarbonization and carbon transparency through measures like direct funding for Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) can help Canadian companies identify key areas for reducing emissions and demonstrate compliance with green standards. A comprehensive Buy Clean Canada strategy, backed by public-private partnerships, industry guidance, and targeted incentives, would build on existing frameworks like the Zero Carbon Building Standard, the Toronto Green Standard, and the Federal Green Building Strategy. Together, we can drive a low-carbon future for Canadian construction. Mantle Developments reposted this
Last week, I had the pleasure of representing Mantle Developments at the WoodWorks 2024 Summit in Toronto. It was great to learn from industry leaders about the huge opportunities and some of the challenges facing the wood construction industry in Canada. Here are some of my top takeaways: 🔹 Mass Timber's Potential: Mass timber can play a critical role in meeting Canada’s housing demand while supporting our ambitious 2024 net-zero targets. 🔹 The Power of Prefabrication & Modular Construction: These methods promise faster build times, less waste, and lower costs, all while transforming the construction landscape. 🔹 Scalability Through Standardization: Repeatable designs and standardized building codes will be essential to scale mass timber across the industry. 🔹 Embodied Carbon Targets: Setting the right carbon targets will naturally position mass timber as a leading, sustainable building material. Yet, barriers remain—such as limited supply chains and gaps in industry knowledge on mass timber. Overcoming these will require collaboration, innovation, and commitment from all stakeholders. Looking forward to seeing how the industry embraces these insights for a more sustainable future! 🌍💼 #MassTimber #SustainableConstruction #WoodWorks2024 #NetZero #MantleDevelopments

Mantle Developments is now a proud member of New Economy Canada! This partnership aligns with our mission to drive sustainable innovation and low-carbon solutions across the built environment. We're excited to collaborate with industry leaders to help shape a more resilient, inclusive, and low-carbon economy for the future.
New Economy Canada is pleased to welcome Mantle Developments as our newest member. Toronto-based Mantle Developments provides climate consulting services to companies that build, including manufacturers and real estate developers. Canada will need an additional 3.5 million housing units by 2030. It is also investing heavily in digital infrastructure, manufacturing, and electrification. Mantle helps deploy cost-effective solutions to reduce the associated emissions of this growth. Additionally, their innovative work in new policy and real-world projects is helping shift the industry’s approach to low-carbon construction and climate risk mitigation for a more sustainable future. They co-led the development of North America’s first municipal embodied carbon management policy, the Toronto Green Standard v4. We’re excited to collaborate with such a forward-thinking company!
