Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion: First and Foremost, a Human Conversation
About us
We believe in a world where we humanize and celebrate our differences to thrive. Every human is unique and it should be celebrated and nurtured to succeed. Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) have been at the core of who we are as an organization. We help organizations, such as social enterprise, B Corps, NGO or for profit, strive for Justice, thrive in equity, invest in diversity and be more inclusive. Our mission is to humanize the workplace by empowering one another and by building bridges for an equitable and inclusive workplace and workforce. Employers must create a workplace that makes all their employees feel nurtured, like they belong and like they matter. When our differences are acknowledged and recognized, amazing things happen. Whether your company is in the initial stages of a JEDI strategy or has already undertaken a comprehensive plan, we can facilitate the learning process and help your company attain its objectives.

🌍 October is Global Diversity Awareness Month—a time to celebrate the richness of cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives that shape our global community. What does Global Diversity Awareness Month mean? It's a moment to reflect on the importance of inclusion in our workplaces and communities. Diversity encompasses more than race or ethnicity; it includes gender, age, religion, abilities, and more. Embracing these differences leads to stronger collaboration, richer experiences, and innovative solutions 💭 Why does it matter? Diverse teams bring unique perspectives that drive creativity and problem-solving. Studies show that inclusive cultures outperform their peers, attract top talent, and retain engaged employees. But beyond business outcomes, it's about creating environments where everyone feels valued and empowered. How can we take action? 📚 Educate yourself: Learn about different cultures and experiences. 🖇️ Foster inclusivity: Create spaces where all voices are respected. 🏆 Champion equity: Support policies that remove barriers for underrepresented groups. 🗣️ Engage in conversations: Listen, ask questions, and stay open to learning. Let’s commit to celebrating diversity and building inclusive environments that are more dynamic, innovative, and enriching for everyone! #GlobalDiversityMonth #InclusionMatters #CelebrateDiversity

In Canada, we observe Person's Day honouring the landmark moment of the "Persons Case," when women were legally recognized as "persons" and gained the right to sit in the Senate. While progress was made, barriers to gender equality still persist. Microaggressions—subtle, biased comments or actions—often go unnoticed in the workplace, but research shows they significantly impact women's careers and well-being. 🧑👩 Gender Disparity: Women are twice as likely as men to experience microaggressions creating a toxic environment that undermines their mental health, self-esteem, and career growth. ⚖️ Compounding Inequalities: Women of color experience these biases more frequently, compounding the emotional strain of both gender and racial bias and further alienating them in the workplace. 🧠 Impact on Psychological Safety: Women facing subtle biases often feel less safe at work, limiting their ability to take risks, propose ideas, or advocate for themselves. To combat microaggressions and foster inclusivity, companies need to: ➡️ Start by acknowledging that microaggressions exist! ➡️ A comprehensive JEDI training should go beyond the surface. ➡️ Establish clear, safe channels for reporting microaggressions, without fear of retaliation. Microaggressions may seem small, but their cumulative impact is significant. By addressing these acts of discrimination, organizations can foster a more inclusive environment where women—and all employees—thrive. When everyone feels valued, businesses grow stronger together 🌱

Celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day! Indigenous Peoples' Day, observed on the second Monday in October, honors the rich cultures and contributions of Indigenous communities, serving as a counter-narrative to Columbus Day. This day highlights the history, resilience, and rights of Native peoples in the Americas. Why is Indigenous Peoples’ Day important? 🌍 For too long, Indigenous histories have been overlooked. This day acknowledges their ongoing struggles to preserve land, languages, and cultural practices while reflecting on the impact of colonization and the need to decolonize our understanding of history. How can we honor Indigenous communities? 📚 Educate ourselves: Learn about Indigenous history and culture through books, art, and stories. 🤝 Support Indigenous rights: Advocate for policies that protect their land, water, and rights. 🗺️ Recognize the land: Acknowledge the original Indigenous inhabitants of your area and learn about their histories. Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a call to action for justice and equality. Let's move forward together by amplifying Indigenous voices and create a future where their contributions are fully recognized and valued ✨ #IndigenousPeoplesDay #DecolonizeHistory #IndigenousRights #IndigenousVoices #LandBack #CulturalPreservation #IndigenousHistory #NativeAmericanHistory #CelebrateDiversity

One of the highlights of our trip to Copenhagen was visiting the beautiful Amaliehaven Park, a reminder of how crucial green spaces are to our well-being. With around 1/4 of Copenhagen being green, the city offers its residents an average of 42.4 square meters of green space each—almost double what we have in Montreal! While picnics in the park and reading under trees may seem romantic, the health benefits are real. Access to green space is strongly linked to improved mental and physical health. Studies show that proximity to natural environments reduces stress, depression, and anxiety. Yet, access to green space is often unequal, with minority communities having fewer parks and facing greater exposure to environmental toxins. This is not just an environmental issue; it’s a JEDI issue. While systemic change is needed, we can take small steps to make a difference. Planting trees, creating workplace gardens, and utilizing rooftop green spaces can reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance productivity. Even at home, creating small green areas on balconies or in gardens can provide calming environments that boost your overall health. On a larger scale, we must advocate for equal access to green space. Until then, enjoy those moments in the park—your health will thank you!

Today is World Mental Health Day! 🧠 🌱 💙 Observed every October 10th, World Mental Health Day is an important opportunity to raise awareness, break stigmas, and promote mental health care. ⚠️ Why is World Mental Health Day important? In today’s fast-paced, hyper-connected world, many face immense pressures from work, home, and personal lives, leading to stress and burnout. Despite growing awareness, deep-rooted stigmas still prevent many from seeking help. What can we do? This day encourages individuals, organizations, and communities to unite in supporting mental health initiatives. It’s essential to normalize conversations about mental health year-round. 💥 Here’s how you can take action Start the conversation: Check in on friends and colleagues; share your own experiences if comfortable. Prioritize self-care: Set boundaries and maintain a healthy work-life balance. Champion mental health: Advocate for access to mental health resources in your organization. Seek help when needed: It’s okay to reach out to a professional for support. 🌐💻 At Masla, we’re dedicated to fostering supportive environments that promote mental well-being in the workplace. Interested in learning more? We have a free masterclass and corporate training on mental health. Feel free to reach out—we’d love to bring these resources to you! #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthAwareness #BreakTheStigma #WorkplaceWellness #MentalWellbeing #EmpathyInTheWorkplace #MentalHealthAdvocacy
