🚫🔧 Impact Guns + Mass Timber? Not So Fast! 🔧🚫 Impact guns are awesome for a lot of things—just not for mass timber projects! 😬 Sure, they’re compact, powerful, and easy to use, but when it comes to installing structural fasteners in mass timber, these bad boys can do more harm than good. Think over-torquing, fastener fatigue, and invisible damage. 😱 Want the full scoop on why impact guns and mass timber don’t mix? Head over to our latest blog post for all the details! 📖 👉 https://bit.ly/4eQ5XK2 #masstimber #engineering #structuralengineering

🔧 New Update Alert: CSA O86 Standard for Mass Timber Screws! 📄 Did you catch the 2024 update to CSA O86? 🚨 It now references something called hardness for self-tapping screws, including those for mass timber construction, produced to either ISO 2702 or ASTM B18.6.3. This makes testing a must for ensuring code compliance, specifically for internal hydrogen embrittlement. 🛠️ Why hardness testing though? 🤔 Well, it is a go-to method for quick and reliable material assessment. Not only does it help understand the risk of hydrogen embrittlement, but it also correlates (almost perfectly linearly, we might add 😉) with other key material properties like strength. 💪 While the testing itself is straightforward, achieving accurate results needs precise sample preparation and skilled hands. 🧑🔬 Good News! 🎉 MTC Solutions has both the facilities and the know-how to obtain accurate Vickers hardness test results for our screws, helping to ensure compliance with code requirements and giving you a piece of mind with our products. Want to learn more about our screw hardness testing? Let’s connect! 💬 Curious about hydrogen embrittlement?
