Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada reposted this
Over the last several years the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada and the National Trade Contractors Council of Canada have been calling for the creation of federal construction secretariat for precisely these reasons. Construction touches so many aspects of the Canadian economy and so many different portfolios. Building the future of this country requires a dedicated department that understands the unique needs of this industry, and the critical role it plays in the Canadian economy. #BuildingSmarterTogether
🚧 VRCA & BCCA Propose New Provincial Cabinet Position: Minister of Construction🚧 With only two months left before B.C. voters hit the polls, the VRCA and the British Columbia Construction Association (BCCA) aim to turn the campaign spotlight on the construction industry by proposing a bold new provincial cabinet role: the Minister of Construction. With B.C.’s construction industry contributing $27 billion to the province’s GDP and the total current value of construction projects sitting at $160+ billion, the associations argue it’s high time the sector had its own dedicated voice at the legislature in Victoria. "Construction isn’t just about buildings," said VRCA President Jeannine Martin. "It’s about communities, infrastructure, and the future of this province. We need a minister who will ensure our industry gets the voice and attention it deserves. It's time we had someone in charge of this vital, economy driving, entrepreneurial industry." “We were very pleased to see at the very least an acknowledgement of just how important industry and the skilled trades are going to be to achieving some of the commitments that are laid out in the strategy,” said Ken Lancastle, COO of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada, adding it and other associations took part in the consultation process. “From an industry perspective, we’re happy that there was a good level of acknowledgement in the strategy document that this is going to take all levels of government as well as industry if they’re going to meet some of the commitments that they’ve outlined in that strategy.” Read more - https://lnkd.in/g2XWxBBz #BuildingSmarterTogether
