We’re proud to be part of the team bringing a special development to life: the Reina Condos in Etobicoke. This is the first condo project entirely designed and developed by an all-female team. Sahar Borodinas, one of our partners in Toronto, reflects on Reina's impact: "What sets Reina apart is the perspective. A team of female professionals brings a unique and essential viewpoint, influencing every stage of the development process." #Engineering #Consulting __________ Spotlight Development Inc.

Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay, and this year's theme is Mental Health at Work. With much of our time spent at the office, fostering a safe and healthy environment is essential for mental well-being. Everyone manages stress differently, so we asked our HR team to share three quick tips to help you maintain a healthy mind while at work:   🌟Take breaks: Step away from your desk, stretch, and take deep breaths to recharge. 🌟Prioritize: Feeling overwhelmed? Break tasks into manageable steps to create a sense of achievement throughout the day. 🌟Seek Support: If you're feeling overwhelmed, don't hesitate to ask for help. Connection can make a big difference. You can also use resources like employee assistance programs or other mental health support services.   Remember, taking care of your mental health is a continuous journey. How do you care for your mental health at work? If you have any tips, share them below!

Last week, our team in Dauphin attended the grand opening of the new Ebb and Flow Elementary School, where we were proud to contribute as mechanical and electrical consultants. Joe Bernard, P. Eng, one of our Associates and the electrical lead designer for the project, expressed the joy of being part of a project that will have a positive impact on the community. "It gives me great pride to be part of a project like this. Assisting in young children's development and education really warms the heart. Having grown up on a First Nation on the East Coast, it's incredible to see this new school open and know I played a small part in it." The new school will serve children from kindergarten to grade 8, easing classroom sizes in the area and providing the latest technologies for a modern learning environment. Jeff G. Provost, our Indigenous Relations Leader, also attended the opening and gifted STEM kits to the school, supporting the future of First Nations students. __________ Architecture49 Inc. #Engineering #Consulting #Mechanical #Electrical

Our Winnipeg team participated in a volunteer day with Take Pride Winnipeg! Inc., joining their Team Up to Clean Up initiative. They geared up with trash and recycling bags, gloves, litter pick-up tools, and sharps containers to tackle the streets around our office, splitting into three groups to cover nearly 180,000 m². Their collective effort paid off: 🗑 The team collected 22 full garbage bags, removing everything from food wrappers and cigarette butts to larger items like smashed computer monitors and even couch cushions. Thank you to the volunteers for helping keep our surroundings clean! 🌎 #TeamBuilding #Sustainability #Engineering #Consulting

Today is #EnergyEfficiencyDay, and we are proud to spotlight our work on the 500 Upper Wellington Street project in Hamilton. This purpose-built rental development features 261 modern suites and 6,000 sq. ft. of retail space, all powered by cutting-edge, energy-efficient mechanical and electrical systems.   Our mechanical engineering team, led by the partner Agustin Olt, P.Eng., designed advanced HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems that significantly enhance energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. We optimized performance by leveraging renewable energy sources and advanced control systems, allowing this new building to transition away from traditional fossil fuel-based heating and cooling systems.   Agustin shares: "This approach lowers operational costs and aligns with decarbonization goals. It's rewarding to see how innovative technology can transform our approach to comfort while actively contributing to a sustainable future. Engaging with stakeholders throughout the process was crucial, as it ensured that the solutions were not only technically sound but also economically viable and user-friendly." #Engineering #Mechanical #Sustainability ---------- Symtech Innovations Ltd. Today, we honour the #NationalDayForTruthAndReconciliation by continuing to reflect on our collective journey toward understanding and reconciliation. MCW prioritized Indigenous Cultural Awareness training for all team members, with our Partners, Principals, and Associates completing it ahead of our company-wide rollout earlier this month. Their experiences inspire us all, and here is what some of our partners shared with us: 🍂 Elliott Garfinkel P.Eng., MBA "The training was an eye-opening journey into Indigenous history and present realities. The piece on residential schools had a profound impact on me. It was eye-opening to realize how our tax dollars supported such a system. It made me reflect on my own connection to it. My dad, who was a taxpayer during that era, also felt the weight of this reality. I remember having a conversation with him—he fully acknowledged the part we played. Remembering his perspective added another layer to my understanding of how deeply these policies affected so many lives." 🍂 James Furlong, MBA, CET, CEM "I thought a lot about my grandmother and great-grandmother, comparing and contrasting their residential school experiences with those shared in the training. I enjoyed learning about some of the traditions of Treaty Seven and BC Coastal First Nations, where I've worked, and where my family comes from. It gave me the courage to bridge gaps in our communities, with a reminder that we don’t need to be perfect—just approach with humility and openness. I’m left with a deeper respect for Indigenous communities and a renewed commitment to long-term decision-making and collaboration." 🍂 Janet Williams P.Eng. "The training provided great insight into the history and current reality of Indigenous Peoples. It was deeply thought-provoking, often highlighting the gaps that existed in my own education. I am proud that MCW has prioritized a commitment to Canada’s Call to Action 92 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Special thanks to our Indigenous Relations Leader, Jeff G. Provost, who continues to lead us on this meaningful journey." #IndigenousRelations #TruthAndReconciliation

Education is always inspiring, and we’re excited to highlight Shilpa Pathak, Associate from our Calgary office, who is actively sharing her lighting expertise through the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES). Earlier this year, Shilpa contributed to the Fundamentals of Lighting course, leading two modules covering topics such as "Daylighting" and "Codes, Standards and Practice." Her dedication to education doesn’t stop there! Shilpa is also involved in Group Studies for lighting professionals, helping peers stay ahead in the rapidly evolving field of lighting technology. Thank you, Shilpa, for your commitment to both learning and teaching! 🌟 #BackToSchool #Engineering #Lighting #Education

As we approach #NationalDayforTruthAndReconciliation on September 30th, we remain dedicated to fostering cultural awareness and growth. Recently, we introduced to all our staff "The Path™ - Your Journey Through Indigenous Canada," an online course to deepen our understanding of Indigenous history, culture, and contemporary issues.   Our Indigenous Relations Leader, Jeff G. Provost, reminds us that “Truth comes before reconciliation.” This course marks an important step in learning the truth of our shared history as we work to create a more inclusive and respectful workplace.
