Medical writers, have you checked out #MediSearch yet?

Are they preying on medical writers? I am concerned about the increasing hiring scams in medcomms. The job description (JD) seemed regular. I spent 2 days tailoring my resume and cover letter. I do this for every application although it is time-consuming. The response I received was that they are actually looking for contract writers at a very low hourly rate. They also mentioned the first step is to submit samples and take a writing test. Employers have the freedom to find affordable employees. But why not mention in the JD that it is a contract role with one-quarter of the fair pay? Why do you prefer advanced degrees and tons of experience? This seemed irregular to me, and I wanted to dig in more. I asked if we could have a phone or virtual call before I took the test. The answer was 'No'. They want samples and writing tests even before they tell you about their company, what kind of content they create, and how the team works. I cannot think this is anything but a scam to collect free content for their blog. I am concerned about the increasing hiring scams in medcomms. #mednarrate #medicalcommunications

Do all the free resources make learning a new subject easy? Not necessarily. With each new piece of information, our brain faces more decisions — overwhelming, exhausting, and demotivating! There are many excellent resources out there, free and paid. However, if you haven't been able to utilize them effectively, you might need a tour guide, aka a coach, to lead you to your most desired destinations.

Giving up a 12-year research and teaching career for entry-level medical writing positions was heartbreaking. It felt worse when most job applications went unanswered.
