The Bank of Canada has just announced a noteworthy interest rate cut by 50 basis points to 3.75%, signaling important developments for Canadians. This proactive decision indicates a stabilizing inflation environment, though it may present challenges for overall economic productivity. As we continue through this transitional phase, we encourage our Members to review their investment strategies with their advisors, especially as returns on GICs and high-interest savings may decrease. At Meridian, we believe this move will enhance discretionary income for borrowers and stimulate consumer spending, ultimately fostering economic growth. We can expect another cut in December and a continued trend of declining rates in Q1/Q2 2025. For more information on the Bank of Canada interest rate announcement, visit https://lnkd.in/ge3Kc4x

Member success is our success. When our Members go out of their way to support their communities in meaningful ways, we’re ready to shine a light on their success. Meet Rob Cikoja, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Huronia. Rob needed to create a new model that would serve the housing needs in his community, while building donor trust. To start, he leaned into his relationship with Meridian. Together, we helped Rob restructure his organization’s mortgage and home ownership model to create a housing program with lasting impact. This past weekend, in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the team at our Steeles & Birchmount branch volunteered at Austin Drive Park with 10,000 Trees on National Tree Day to plant 950 trees, shrubs and wildflowers symbolizing growth, renewal, and the hope for a united future. At Meridian, we are committed to our community, and we remain dedicated to raising awareness as we navigate this ongoing healing journey together.

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we reflect on Canada’s history and the lived experiences of Indigenous Peoples. As we continue to listen, learn, and grow, we reaffirm our commitment to support reconciliation efforts within our communities. We believe that building a future deeply rooted in respect and mutual understanding is essential for true change. On this collective path towards reconciliation, we continue to encourage you to: 1. Recognize the diversity of Indigenous peoples: Understand that "Indigenous" refers to a diverse and distinct group of people. 2. Learn about residential schools: Educate yourself on the history of residential schools and their historical injustices. 3. Explore rights in Canada: Know the differences between treaty, constitutional, Indigenous, and human rights in Canada. 4. Acknowledge Indigenous contributions: Respect the rich contributions that Indigenous peoples have made to our history. Everyday actions like wearing an orange shirt, supporting Indigenous-owned businesses, attending community events and committing to learning more about the land acknowledgement in your area can help impact our progress on reconciliation. Meridian is committed to advance the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s goals and assist in achieving the 94 Calls to Action. Today we honor the survivors, their families, and communities and we invite you to join us on this journey.
