Our BMO Business Banking team is honoured to support the 29th annual fundraising gala of the Michael Cuccione Foundation in support of childhood cancer research. At the age of 16, Michael Cuccione lost his battle after several rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and a bone marrow transplant. As Childhood Cancer Awareness Month draws to a close, I want to shine a light on a foundation close to my heart—the Michael Cuccione Foundation. Born from the courageous story of Michael Cuccione, who passed away at the young age of 16 from complications related to Hodgkin's lymphoma, the foundation has become a driving force behind efforts to support families facing the devastating reality of a childhood cancer diagnosis. Since its establishment in 1997, the Michael Cuccione Foundation has been at the forefront of the fight against childhood cancer, making tangible progress in both research and treatment. One of the foundation’s most recent remarkable achievements is its pivotal role in bringing the revolutionary CAR-T Cell Therapy to BC Children's Hospital, Vancouver. This groundbreaking treatment has already saved the lives of six children who relapsed and faced a second cancer diagnosis with no other options. While this treatment is a breakthrough, it remains in its trial phase, and expanding its reach to tackle solid tumours requires $10.5 million in funding. The foundation’s work is far from over, but its impact is undeniable. Having served as a board member for several years, Ciccone McKay Financial Group and the Immix Group: An Employee Benefits Company continue to passionately support the Michael Cuccione Foundation. Recently, our team had the honour of attending the 29th Annual Fundraising Gala, a moving evening dedicated to raising awareness and donations for childhood cancer research. The room was filled with hope, resilience, and a shared commitment to making a lasting difference in the lives of children and families impacted by cancer. Michael’s dream to end childhood cancer lives on through the foundation’s relentless efforts to fund innovative research and provide support to those in need.
